The Best of Each Decade Birthday DRAFT

ohnoitsyou

International Regular
With his decline over the last year, people tend to forget just how good Matt Prior was at both disciplines.

Sid Barnes
Archie Jackson
Rahul Dravid
Charles Macartney
Garry Sobers
Mark Waugh
Wilfred Rhodes
Matt Prior
Mike Procter
Ray Lindwall
Andy Roberts

Still not settled on the batting order, but im quite happy with this team, even with the tactical blunders I've made all the way through

Very nice team OHNO. Not sure about Rhodes at 7 though because he wasn't an allrounder. That is, he pretty much stopped bowling when he started to open the innings with Hobbs. If Rhodes is to be in top form with the ball then he's more at home batting at 9 or 10. Just a thought.

I think the tactical blunder was the rest of us letting you pick Sobers and Procter in the same team

Blakus, feel free to make a pick from the >=1980s if you want to. Do NOT pick from the 1880s as you and Kyear are still contesting the 1880s, and Kyear still needs to make his turn.

I'll leave it up to you.

Chasingthedon, appears to be that you stand unopposed, so please make a pick from the 1930s or 1940s before you retire for the night.

I was about to agree then realised you were referring to draft order. Regardless, you've overcome that to draft a fantastic team mate.
Thanks, mate.

I'm quite happy with the team as well. The only one I regret not picking was Procter. I had zeroed in on Procted but then went and picked McCabe. Could have taken the risk with McCabe probably.

Saint Kopite, Ankitj has already picked for the Round, and there appears to be no one else contesting the 1950s - so feel free to pick any time you like soon.

The normal awards that everyone else has
I need a keeper and I'm limited in choice, but Bert Strudwick (1880s) suits my cause perfectly.

"One of the greatest and assuredly one of the most popular players of his time...No more genuine sportsman, in every sense of the word, than the teetotal, non-smoking Strudwick ever took the field for Surrey. An idol of the Surrey crowd, he was always ready to proffer helpful advice to young players. He never appealed unless sure in his own mind that a batsman was out, and such was his keenness to save runs that he was frequently known to chase a ball to the boundary. Sir H. D. G. Leveson Gower, the former Oxford, Surrey and England captain, once wrote: When you walk on to a certain cricket ground and you find Strudwick behind the wicket, you feel that you will not only get full value for your money, but you will participate in the cheerfulness that his presence always lends to the day."- Cricinfo.

Fits my gentlemanly squad perfectly.

Monk's Gentlemen

03. Ricky Ponting *
04. Graeme Pollock
05. Colin Cowdrey
06. Maurice Leyland
07. Kapil Dev

09. Mitchell Johnson
10. Bert Strudwick +
11. Curtly Ambrose

Can I pick someone from 1920s as well because Ankit is the only one who needs a player from 1920s and I have two picks before him?

Yes, because Ankitj has already picked for Round 11, and no else needs a player from the 1920s. Feel free to pick someone from the 1920s or 1950s for Round 11.

Let's not delve into Round 12 just yet. So just one pick for the time being SK.

Please be aware that Kyear is still to pick for the Round at any time.

(Hope that I don't live to regret this as I am assuming that the remaining decades listed are in fact true. However, no one has pointed out a mistake yet)

Thing with Rhodes is that he had so many stages to his career. I would say that in the periods after the war and in the years before he started opening he was a genuine all rounder. Currently leaning towards the 1902-1905ish Rhodes who was obviously much more of a bowler, but its so hard to relegate someone who scored nigh on 40,000 FC runs to number 9.
