You and I are thinking on the same lines. I wanted Pollock and was close to picking Punter as well. :D

Graham Alan Gooch, 1950s. Sorry, couldn't find an action shot.

If you believe the Editors of 'Masterly Batting', and Derek Pringle who wrote the accompanying piece, then Gooch's 154 against the West Indies in 1991 (Marshall, Ambrose, Walsh, Patterson) is the best innings of all time. An understandable choice for opening batsman.

No worries Monk. Ended up having to work late last night so it was no deal.

After your comments defending Ponting in the 'Best Opener in the last 20 Years' thread, or whatever it's called, I wasn't suprised that you chose him as your No.3 batsman.

Incidently, that photo of Ponting shows his defining shot, and will possibly be his main memory to cricket such was its power of execution.
