The Best of Each Decade Birthday DRAFT

Watson, what are the numbers in brackets after each player's name?

They are batting and/or bowling 'Highest Ratings' according to the ICC. I was interested to find out what sort of scores the Gold Tier players achieve.

Incidently, a highest/peak rating includes all of the players career right up until the time that the peak is reached and recorded. The graphs that track the career of the Gold Tier ATG players tend to show a plateau because they sustain their form over a longer period. Lesser players merely show a spike in their Rating. And obviously, players with short careers like Barry Richards, or atypical careers like WG Grace will give unreliable or biased Ratings.

Whether it becomes a useful or interesting exercise remains to be seen. However, I will say that Faulkner's batting and bowling Ratings have changed my perception of him a little. I used to view him as a 'pure' allrounder, or even a bowler who could bat very well. However, his batting Rating is excellent, and significantly better than his bowling Rating (relative to frontline batsman and bowlers).

In my career impact analysis, he shows up as having had exactly the same level of impact with bat and ball. No one else is that balanced as an all-rounder.

How would you view these ratings for players who didn't play a lot of tests? As we can pick any player even someone who never played a single test based on ability, I think it could be unfair for the ones who didn't play a lot of tests. For example, do you agree with Barry Richards' ratings?

I think that it is a 'logical assumption' that both Richards and Grace would have achieved a Rating of 900ish given the enormity of their talent and First Class career.

Yes, that's how I read his stat's, although I didn't go into them in any mathmatical detail like you.

I know, figuring out the best choice.

Can I edit picks since no one else would have picked as yet?

Don't see why you can't edit your Laker pick if you want to. Doesn't effect anything.

Nah will leave it. Would feel like cheating later on.

Fast bowlers going too fast.

Thought you would be after a WI quick kyear.
