**Official** England in the West Indies 2013-14

Yeah there's also that stereotype that the English have quite a happily prosecutorial way of interacting with each other too. Which means they probably relish the thought of sitting around together for days and days, much more so than most other nationalities.

..because they don't need to escape from a ****hole.

Nah, they're just not as wealthy.
You could probably lodge a case with that first point, but the second is just nonsense.......are you aware of the state of the UK economy??

I'm struggling to make sense of that. We are talking about travelling cricket fans here......so they travel to hang out with their own?? As opposed to say Aussie, Saffer, Kiwi or Indian etc cricket fans who stay home........are they doing that for the cultural experience?

Look it really is quite simple why the English tour in such numbers.......it's because they have more fun than anyone else doing it, which makes it a more attractive proposition to more people.

No I'm sure it's not.......which begs the question why don't other touring teams generate the same level of support??

So it is hard to argue with gyptians comment itbt.
With regards to the Windies, a lot easier for the English to get over there than a lot of other countries.

Cricket club I played for used to go over once every two years to play some preseason games, and get gassed obviously.

Two factors also play into it:

English are more used to travelling with a larger group of mates heading away; stag and hens trips much bigger thing over there.

Cultural cringe; see most people's reactions to the Fanatics.

flights from England to most places are far cheaper than they are from places like Australia and particularly NZ, where the population density is extremely low and they're already thousands of kilometres from any other connecting hub.
Singapore is where most international trips for NZers begin and that's more than 6 hours away. you pretty much can't get a flight anywhere further than Sydney without doing a considerable amount of saving.

Sorry, but even as a mad cricket fan i'm not travelling overseas to watch a cricket game. More important things to see on overseas trips than sport.

maybe i'd go see a game in India or stop by at Lord's if I happened to be in the area. But i wouldn't plan an international trip further than Aus around cricket. I can't ever imagine having that much free time and finances.

Yeah it's not wealth. The same as the way people who follow football away, whether internationally or all over the country, aren't wealthy. Same with rugby.

Uhhhh :lookaroun :shy:

To be fair to me, I only watched cricket at Lord's and Trent Bridge in England because I was doing a trip to Europe at the time, and whilst I did go to India to watch a test match it was my family's hometown so I visited a lot of family on the same trip.

But I have absolutely no excuse whatsoever for my Wellington trip, just flat out flew there to watch the cricket

you managed to balance it out with a trip with the mrs though, right? That's good enough. Trans-Tasman isn't too bad.

The other ones are situations I would do - I'd go a little out of my way but I wouldn't go to the other side of the world just for cricket unless I suddenly came into a whole lot of money and time.

Not really making a judgement on others who do it, just my own personal situation.

And I certainly wasn't making a judgement on those that don't..........young family, mortgage and other commitments mean the chances of me travelling overseas for cricket any time soon are slim to non existent.

But it's more than just situation, it comes down to priorities as well and it is misguided to think that these people that do travel to watch England play cricket are rich ****s. They just set their priorities and where they choose to spend their money differently to you and I.

To go back to the original comment that started this discussion......

One thing I've forgot to say is that the English crowds for this have been incredible. For what is a pretty pointless series the last game seemed to be close to a sellout and half the crowd looked English.

England quickly becoming one of the worst teams but damn sure they have the best travelling support.
Is a 100% spot on and has been the case for nearly 2 decades. Even though my own circumstances/priorities don't allow me to be a part of it (apart from every 4 years when they come to Oz) I am still incredibly proud of England's supporters and they should be acknowledged as the best travelling supporters in cricket.

Yeah, I reckon Europe's cultural diversity and proximity might have a bit to do with it as well. Australia and New Zealand in particular are fairly isolated when it comes to trips abroad, certainly compared to Britain.

Stand broken at 98, entertaining stuff though. Morgan comes in ahead of Moeen, don't think he's batted as high as 3 for England before.
