A footrace between Russell and Tredders was only going to end one way wasn't it. Slight mismatch there.

At least we get to see Jade bat maybe.

Nah Bres farming the strike and ruining the fun.

Ah no here we go.

Really, really dislike that Samuels is being allowed to bowl at all. Yeah sure, it's only his "quicker" delivery that was found to be a chuck, but the fact that he repeatedly chucked that delivery for 5 years, including in numerous playoff situations should warrant a life ban from bowling. The dude has already faced 2 bans in international cricket. He's already sent down countless number of illegal deliveries. There's just way too much risk of him reverting when he's already proven to revert to it before and only gets found out when he's belatedly called.

wow, what a pathetic performance from England, really disappointing..why is playing spin still such a huge issue for England? Some of the shot selctions were woeful and amateur.Another good innings from RaviBop but overall, still really poor.. come on England, we know you can do better than this?

It wasn't a good performance but that is what you get from average teams- and that's what the current England team is.

Hales, Lumb and Wright are all reverting to the mean. They outperformed their skill level for a while but now teams have seen a bit more of them they are looking average.

The bowling Broad aside who is knackered is poor. I suggested Stokes should have been rested a while ago for either the aus t20's or the wi 50 over games but they've kept him going and he looks mentally demolished. He's been moved all round the batting order and bowling lineups and he seems to have no idea what he is doing right now.

The other issue I wanted to bring up was the lack of alternative spinners in county cricket. Where are the Badrees? He's not a great cricketer but he turns the ball both ways(or straight on and a googly), bowls quickly through the air and is tough to get away. The amount of one day cricket in the english game where spinners(who don't play or bowl in 4 day cricket) are used to fill the overs means there really should be more good one day bowlers. 18 counties and there isn't one mystery spinner or even really a regular leg break bowler who plays one day cricket.( Rashid did well for one year or so, Borthwick doesn;t bowl much, Beer is probably the only guy who bowls a lot of overs) There needs to be a bit more unorthodoxy in the coaching and one day cricket to keep up with other nations. None of the batsmen in the county game get to face a guy turning it in two directions.

I can see why in 4 day cricket some spinners don't come through. A lot of cricket is played in the first couple of months where conditions are very much in favour of the fast bowlers. Even later in the season wickets are left with lots of grass on them and there is rarely much need for a spinner. But in the 40 over and 20 over games the wickets tend to be left with grass off them and are quite worn + a lot of fast bowlers are generally rested. There are plenty of opportunities for spinners but we don't seem to produce anything other than the standard offspinner who doesn't spin the ball much and has no variation.

Imo there is no reason why someone like Badree shouldn't coming through the english game if they aren't a little more flexible. There are plenty of opportunities, plenty of games and favourable conditions. He isn't a brilliant cricketer but he is good at what he does.

The only thing stopping them coming through is the lack of history on non conventional spinners in recent times and until someone comes through bowling a little differently to county or international cricket counties are probably going to overlook the different spin bowler. Once there are a couple, you get more and better bats in turn. And once there are 5 or 6 you might get the special one like Narine. For all that I complain about too much cricket and too many counties this also gives opportunities to players who might not have got them in say Australia or South Africa, and the conditions especially in one day cricket are much more favourable to spinners here than in Aus,SA and NZ.

i agree with a lot that you have said above and Rashid did ok but didnt seem to fit, same with Yorkshire so not sure if there are personality issues coming into it but that's pure speculation on my part. The other thing is thewickets do not generally favour spinners (apart from a few grounds) and i think that lead a natural bias in young bowlers towards bowling fast- similar to the way Indian & Sri Lankan kids all want to be spinners but Pakistani kids all want to bowl fast..tobehonest, i am not sure what the solution is but something needs to change as all teh top sides have at least one quality spinner if not more in teh shorter formats..

Shocker.

Lumb's smashed that. Guessing no DRS then.

EDIT: Or not. Sounded like two noises. Maybe bat on pad?

Hales with the two drops and the one lbw not given in his 40. Man his game has fallen away so much in the last year or so. Such a shame given that he is such a sweet striker of the ball.

Yeah he was horrid, but at least he got some runs, maybe he'll kick on. We could do with it.

I really don't think Dernbach is as awful a bowler as he's made out to be, but gee he loses a lot of games and gets some terrible figures.
