Commentators clearly watching a different sport, swear one of them just said "He was batting so well, Alviro Peterson"

That was such a good shot. This series has seen de Villiers move in my estimation from "very good batsman perhaps just a tiny bit back from the leading pack" to "genuine contender for the title of world's best batsman". I never quite bought into the downhill skier thing as much as to say he only ever scored runs in meaningless situations, but I did think the sheer amount of easy situations he had to bat in recently inflated his recent average a little bit; he's all class though. Absolute walk up start for my World XI now even if I don't give him the gloves.

Moreover, if you take a wider view and look at all formats - which we probably should given how much time and effort the players put in to developing their limited overs cricket - then de Villiers is the comfortably the world's best with daylight second.

If you are including t20, then he's the best, but if you include just tests and ODs then Amla also would have to be right up there too. Amla has an amazing OD record which often seems to go unnoticed.
