Tbf Almunia did have that epic half against Barca in 2009, which means Arsenal fans are allowed to gloat about never losing at home to Pep for another 23 hours.

It's pretty much semantics. They were qualified but not eligible for selection but just because Capello disagreed with me and didn't seek to have the rule removed doesn't make what I said any less true. There was a time where he should've picked (or at least tried to) Almunia

It's a bit of a nonsense, the rule.

I mean, if Spain & Germany, who aren't exactly short of talent, allow foreign-born players to qualify on residence, why don't we?

I think one of Rangers' Italians wanted to play for Scotland too, but was rebuffed because of it. Amoruso, maybe?

It's not semantics. They couldn't play for England with the rule in place = not England qualified

Well the logic is that, you could have some geezer from overseas playing for, say, West Ham for five years and then standard residency rules would mean Wales could pick him even if he'd never even eaten roast lamb

Pellegrini showing himself to be as much of a **** as every other manager with his post match comments about the referee. As others have said, it had seemed like he was slightly better in this regard but apparently not.

EDIT: DavidLaw ‏@DavidLawTennis 11m
Pathetic. Throw the book at him. “@DTguardian: Pellegrini: "From the beginning, I felt the referee was not impartial." #MCFC #FCB”

EDIT 2: According to whichever journalist is on TalkSport atm, apparently Pellegrini has tried to claim that the red card wasn't a red card, which is pretty ridiculous.

Yeah hate it when managers you thought were decent do that but they pretty much all do.

No, qualification is a citizenship issue. Eligibility is a selection rule.

Much like the ECB rules these days means you could have an English citizen (or someone who qualifies for it) who wouldn't be eligible for selection.

Nope. If you're qualified you can play. I'm annoying myself arguing this but I'm not letting you have this

Then given that there's no such thing as an English citizen, one cannot be England qualified, by your logic

You will not win this argument

Whats the age restrictions on refs nowadays, how long can they go onto. Just an hypothetical BTW, nothing to do with proven failures like Andy D'Urso cluttering up the lower leagues or owt....

I'm not even sure I want to, for like the first time ever in this thread I think it's me that needs to tell you to chill. If it means that much to you, have it. 1-0 Corrin.
