***Official*** India in New Zealand 2013/14

India have let Cook score 294, McCullum 281* and Clarke 329 in the last 2 years. Has any other bowling side conceded 3 triple hundreds in test cricket to individual batsmen in such a short time(Bradman excluded)?
On what planet is 294 a triple hundred?

Meh 6 runs. The point is the pile of runs scored by individuals in an innings against a ****ty attack.

LOL lord almighty!!..this Indian attack is something else isn't it? shocking...just shocking. I hope the kiwis keep filling their boots...because when they come to the Caribbean in a few months time i'm not sure they will have it so easy :D .

The quesion is do the Kiwis have the balls to declare early tomorrow and really stamp their dominance over India? or will they seek to kill the game? Watling seemed to hint at batting for the first hour and then putting India in which i guess would be ok.
How much of yesterday's play did you watch?

I thought the Indian bowlers put the ball in some great areas throughout the day and against other opposition probably would have snared a handful of wickets.

The batting was sublime and if they continue with that mindset when they tour the WI, the Black Caps golden run is more than likely to continue.

Apologies for taking the thread off track yesterday, at the core I'm just a passionate cricket nut with many years invested in NZ Cricket both as a player and a spectator. A combination of factors (the typical comments about McCullum in the lead up to the series, the Big Three and their takeover bid, the attempts to write everything off as "But India aren't a capable side") probably lead to me taking the wrong and argumentative tack on things.

I think we all agree, this is a celebration of concentration, poise and play under pressure - and if you were familiar with the NZ press and NZ public and their views on McCullum, you'd understand why a few of the longer time supporters of him are maybe a little too aggressive in their vindication spiels.

Man what a depressing day that was. McCullum seems to have levelled up since I last saw him. I saw them go down to 94/5 and thought it was just a matter of time. Luckily didn't get to see much of yesterday though I got frequent updates from a frustrated friend. So many sure victory opportunities have been lost (or taken away) it would be hard for such a young team. Would love it if NZ declare overnight but I don't see them giving India a shot after batting so well.

Also what is up with our fielding? We seem to be dropping so many especially considering th improved standards with the youngsters.

It's dawned grim and grey in the capital this morning, but no sign of rain as yet.
Yeah. Looking out the window I can't see rain being an issue. I am not sure if the increased cloud cover will lead to more swing though. There is a bit of a northerly blowing, and that wind is meant to get stronger. Back in my playing days I found it really hard to get much swing in a Wellington northerly. Mind you, Boult and Southee have just a touch more skill than I ever did*.

* In this context "just a touch" may be interpreted as "tons".

With ticket prices halved for today, I hope to see a really good crowd at the Basin. Wish I could be there too. Come on, Wellingtonians.

If anyone is around, I will try and convince my boss that I should have an early lunch break and head down there for the first hour. I have a spare 5 day pass, so if anyone else is thinking of heading down, hit me up and you can get in for free.

Don't you feel like you're coming down with a cold and the only way to recover is by spending a "whole day" at the cricket ;)

Tempting though that may be, I respect my employer too much (and the risk of being caught in the crowd on TV is pretty high at Wellington anyway) ;)

This Indian seam attack is much much much better than the shower of **** that the Windies sent here a month earlier.

I thought their bowling on day 3 was very disciplined on a flat wicket. Didn't see much of day 4 though.

Difference being Shillingford and Narine were much more dangerous than Jadeja.

The West Indian spinners will be an order of magnitude more dangerous again in the West Indies. It'll be a completely different kettle of fish over there. You've gotta be confident we'll do well over there, but I'm more confident that the West Indies will be a vastly different proposition when we hit their shores.

Plus, Jason Holder!!!!!!@!

Remember it wasn't anywhere close to a full strength West Indies bowling attack though due to injuries. We'll face a very different team when we play them later in the year.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think there are any injuries preventing a first choice Indian bowler getting on the park for this Test series. Sounds like judging from what the Indian members on the forum have said, there's some better bowlers waiting on the sidelines and it's due to poor selection that they're not playing.

It's very simple - either of Umesh or Pandey are better prospects than Ishant Sharma. They could end up worse (worse than an average of 38?) but they won't know until they actually give them a shot. Similarly, when Zak doesn't have the control he once had, there's no reason to pick him over Bhuvi.

It's been joked about before but it's worth serious consideration that the worst thing about this tour has been Ishant taking wickets.

Sigh... on a series where Sharma has bowled his best and been a genuine threat in all but one innings, we're talking about him being a useless bowler again?

Wagner Round 2.

I'm a bit gutted about how little of this incredible innings I've been able to see. I wonder if Sky Sport might consider putting it out on DVD or something, like they did with Astle. Would definitely buy it.
