Don't like how much of the strike McCullum is getting. Keeps picking off odd numbers of runs late in the over.

Way ahead of myself here, but whatever happens I don't want to see a declaration. At all. India will be desperate to get a win on this tour and I don't want to give them a sniff.

Unfortunately I have the feeling that Baz subscribes to the "gotta be prepared to lose" theorem.

there won't be a declaration because Baz' goal is to bat all day at the very least and I don't see that happening. He's also not an idiot, so won't give them anything below 300-350. Aggression =/= catching the dumb.

yeah, that's why I said that I was getting ahead of myself.

I hope you're right on the 350 thing, even if it's not happening anyway.

Very pleased with this start today and that we didn't do the usual thing last night and lose one just before stumps. McCullum and Watling hugely deserving of that standing ovation at the end of the day.

McCullum - what a guy. Really wants it and is in the zone. Also realised he's drawn level on 9 test centuries with renowned non-scorer of centuries Stephen Fleming.

Thought India erred with the second new ball by not putting it on the spot just outside Watling's offstump anywhere near enough. When they did they beat or drew an edge from Watling quite frequently. Apart from loooking uncertain there, extremely impressed with Watling's innings. A long way to go at current strike rate but would be deserving of a first century that's not against Zim/Bang.

Not asking for too much from Neesham. Just a debut century will be fine.

Southee also needs to realise that a cameo 20 is no good today. He'll be facing a bowling attack that have all bowled at least 30ish overs already and against a ball that's not new - perfect time for an innings of actual substance.

Yes! Referencing the Richardson cramping-up sweep shot on commentary!

Still the most hilarious cricket video I have ever seen.

400/5 and I'll believe.

It won't happen but god it would be sweet to pull a reverse Napier 2009 on them.

It's a wonderful language, but the shortcoming is that it is an uncomfortable accent (from the listener's perspective) to be carried over to other languages. It's the fast pace and heavy lilt that kills it when transferred to something like English or Hindi. It's a very expressive 'accent' in the native tongue itself. If there's an innate shortcoming to it, I'd say it's the heavy reliance on the percussive consonants which might give the listener the grating feeling. Not enough S's or Z's or H's to soften the impact.
Yeah I've noticed all the people i know from Kerala have this accent.

Honestly I'm fascinated by all the different languages and cultures in what is a relatively small area. I find etymology rather interesting.

one hour down.

great stuff, we need to keep hanging on and test their resolve. if this partnership can break their bowlers spirit we get it a lot easier. still a long way from 6pm though.

i've kinda accepted the loss so I don't have to deal with the flirty hope and just letting myself enjoy this partnership.

Scarily enough, I can actually half-read that.
