Two greenhorns at 3 and 4

When will we learn!

That said, hope they do well, especially Alex
The plan is clearly to get themselves the best chance of being SFA/3 afterwhich Clarke will come in and smash a triple hundred.

That's how you'll get Marsh out. Completely walking at that; needed to either completely free the arms and play it square or (much preferably) leave the thing.

Clarke quaking in his boots at #5 hoping the big angry fast bowlers are tired by the time he bats.
Nice to see you watch some cricket outside of New Zealand mate. Jeez we could sure do with that Anderson fella instead of Clarke.

Hard to portray Hughes as a hard luck exclusion though

25 Tests for an average of 32, and three times recalled

That's a fair body of work to judge him by
Right, but when you consider that Marsh is the person picked over him...

Anyway, lots of good test batsmen have had a run in test cricket early in their career where they struggled and came good after being dropped and recalled. Most of the good Australian batsmen of the last few decades, at the least. I don't necessarily think he's horribly unlucky to not get a gig right now, but it's reasonable to expect he'll be picked again some day rather than discarded based on that record.
