I'm relieved Ishant is out. I want all of Jadeja, Bhuvneshwar and Ashwin out too. Bunch of laggards. What we'd like is a McClenaghan or Junaid Khan.
He's utter rubbish. Just like Ishant Sharma, or what people think of Rohit Sharma. And I am an Ishant/Rohit fan as much as you are a Jadeja fan. But I don't celebrate mediocrity, unlike the Indian team.
Jadeja bowled beautifully tonight, and has outbowled Ashwin the whole series.

India needs to pick Mishra or Ojha or some other wicket taking spin bowler. NZ can get away with a non-wicket taker like NcCullum because of our seamers, India can't. Need an attacking spinner.

Jadeja's stats last year:

Batting avg 35, bowling : 52 wickets in 34 games, avg 25, SR 35.

+ genuinely superb fielder.

And we're somehow supposed to believe he should be dropped? You keep harping on his overall stats, which aren't even that bad, but his recent form warrants a long run in the team

Binny's debut as a specialist # 8 made all the more special after bowling only one over and conceding 8. WAG

As an India fan, it irks me no end when they persist with mediocrity
But I don't celebrate mediocrity, unlike the Indian team.
Celebrate mediocrity and you'll never get ahead.
Get rid of Bhuvneshwar and Jadeja. Stop celebrating mediocrity.
Celebrate mediocrity, back the wrong blokes, run the team like a welfare organisation for a select few, and then this happens.
There's a pattern here somewhere

Also, I thought Bhuvneswar bowled well. Shami wasn't awful. Jadeja was good.

But they picked Binny, a genuine no-rounder.. Didn't get runs from the top order, who really should have delivered here. Dhawan should have been picked. Kohli should have stayed at 3.

Even a good bowling side would've struggled to defend that.

Do you reckon if India change their spinners enough the pace bowlers will just magically get better?

I don't.

Bhuvneshwar swings the ball both ways at a decent enough pace. There's plenty there to work with. What India screwed up here is that they should have given him complete license to attack in these conditions. They're too worried about scoring rates when they needed wickets and as soon as Bhuvi got hit he lost confidence because of it.

Ashwin just isn't a wicket taking bowler. I think India have a genuine Mendis on its hands there.

India went in a batsman missing. They got greedy after Ashwin and Jadeja had shown a little form with the bat and immediately paid the price when we knocked off 2 of their 5 batsman cheaply. Everything from there meant India had to try get to the 35th only 3 down.

The Binny selection was ridiculous, he bowled a single over and took up a spot that would have given India a little more license to actually try press the innings sooner.

The funny thing is is that it didn't actually cost them - Dhoni and Jadeja made it till the end from 140/5. Amazing batting. Maybe they might have got more had they had more of a license. Probably not though.

I think it cost them a hell of a lot of runs.

The difference of having to salvage an innings and being given the opportunity to really crush us when we fell apart at the end.

I am intrigued by hendrix's and Arjun''s logic that India need a wicket taking spinner. Most countries would be happy with a spinner who just keeps it tight.

Because spinners in ODIs typically don't have slips or close in fielders - it is hard for them to really get people out. Batsman need to really get frustrated and make a mistake against them. I will need to give it some more thought but I am not sure how realistic it is to have a wicket taking spinner unless he can spin it both ways (has a doosra or knuckle ball etc).

I'm as big an Ashwin fan as you can get but even I'm genuinely worried now. He just doesn't get enough purchase at all. Jadeja completely outbowled him

The logic is that their pace bowlers suck.

Its pretty clear that any complaining about the spinners/batting is just a way to brush the real problem under the carpet, its obvious where India fails and its not in the batting or spin bowling departments.
