I think you'll find if you go back and look through the 11/12 12/13 domestic season threads I talked about the likes of your Hickeys, Carters, Mitchells, etc getting a decent run in the ND set up. Early days for a lot of them but most of them seem to have the ability to play at this level. Like I said earlier, Devcich may be an average batsmen but he isn't the scrub you lot make him out to be, and he can't even make this team, an international cricketer. I think it says something about Popli and co afaic.

Your word on Mitchell has been okay I guess, Mathieson's likely impact was overdone (although Blocky suggests we see a shadow of his nets form once he gets on the field).

Seifert was "a freak" for a while there. You did say "the word is he's not a patch on Williamson technically at this stage" iirc.

Like I said earlier, Devcich may be an average batsmen but he isn't the scrub you lot make him out to be, and he can't even make this team, an international cricketer. I think it says something about Popli and co afaic.

Poor example. Devcich is a limited overs international (a failed limited overs international) and he pretty much always gets selected for ND's LO sides. His first class record on the other hand is so poor I doubt whether he'd be able to get a regular gig in any FC side in NZ.

Yet there he was scoring a first class 100 for New Zealand A three months ago. Calling him a failed limited overs international is just a tad premature, I mean he does average over 40 in T20's. I hope to god like the rest of us he never makes the team again but he played what, five games? He would slot into this CD team somewhere today I would guess, quite easily.

I'm going to put it out there that I actually think he should be in the mix for T20Is. He shouldn't open given the resources available and probably wouldn't be in my top dozen or so specialist batsmen but his darts are valuable. Having two "spin" options in the side is always pretty handy and for all his faults with the bat he's not going to waste deliveries. Should be competing with Hira for a spot in the squad, assuming Vettori's not going to play.

That was a good day for him. But everyone has good days. Since that solitary hundred he's averaged 21.44 in 11 first class innings with a top score of 48 - more or less in line with his career returns. He's garbage at long form cricket. He's the batting equivalent of Ronnie Hira and he certainly shouldn't be used as an example of how ND's first class cup runneth over.

Only if you or Bradburn were given a chance to select the CD+Devcich side. If you actually offered the Devcich to the CD staff for today's game in exchange for any of the blokes in that lineup I reckon they'd laugh at you and rightly so. Greg Hay was probably the last batsman picked in that lineup and he not only averages 40+ across his career and has scored more than 100 runs this season without being dismissed, but he's on 26* amidst a terrible batting effort from both sides and/or a poor wicket. There's no way they'd been keen to replace him with Devcich, and if you think they'd replace a bowler, the captain, Jamie How, or one of their successful, young top order batsmen with him then you're really kidding yourself.

Soper only bowled 7 overs for Otago because a) he was expensive and b) at the start of his 8th over, he bowled his second head-high full toss of the innings so was removed from the attack for the rest of the innings by the umpires. T'was called a no ball, of course, hence why his overs are a nice round number rather than 7.1.

Right. So a guy who hasn't played first class cricket for five years because he simply wasn't good enough. A 26 year old batting all rounder who probably has the worst "stats" of any batsmen in the country and some young kid that averages under 30 after a couple of seasons are all "sure fire" starts ahead of Devcich. You are kidding yourself PEWS.
