Cricketer Of The Year
What do you make of Rohit Sharma opening, as of now? He's got a very good average (45) and impressive conversion rate (4 centuries and 8 fifties in 32 innings), but his strike rate is poor. At 78, he's a weak link in a high-scoring game. He's not even technically equipped to open an innings, as encounters against top bowling sides on difficult wickets suggest. His figures have also got a big boost on account of the flat track festival featuring the Aussies late last year, and are not so consisteny.
Top ODI openers are either technically very good or at least can smash plenty within the first 15 overs at a serious strike rate. Right now, he has neither, and needs to pick up one aspect. Can't imagine him transforming into a technical genius like Gary Kirsten, so at least he can be a Gilchrist-style free-flowing attacker.
