It's just a terrible innings that was saved by the fact that Williamson has been absolutely fantastic and Ryder hit enough at the start to ensure that Guptill taking 25 balls to get past five didn't hold us back. Everything that's wrong with him was on display there, he has no idea where he's hitting the ball, he can't turn strike over, he puts pressure on his team mates by being stuck at one end of the crease and despite being able to hit boundaries the longer he goes on to keep himself near a 65 strike rate, he's extremely reliant on the other guys in the side to do a job for him while he takes his time

And that's if he doesn't get out for his usual 7.5

it's ok. It was a bad innings, we agree.

Let's talk about Taylor and Williamson now.

Far too many dots from Guptill again today, meanwhile Williamson effortlessly cruising at a run a ball.

I'm just loving the way we're dealing with the part timers in this game.

Guptill hits Ishant out of the attack, so Dhoni brings on Kohli. But William says "**** you" and doesn't let him get away with it. Also does the same thing with Raina, only for Guptill to ruin his good work.

Going back to a discussion we had a couple of days ago, a mate of mine from somewhere in the ND area is at the game today, with a pie and a sharpie in the event he runs into Ishant.

Thing I really like about Williamson when he's batting with Taylor is that Taylor tends to reign in his game, play a rotation strike game and they accumulate really well. My only complaint in the last game is that I felt they were twenty or thirty short by the time the powerplay overs came up but they're both looking more fluent here.

fmd you guys post a lot. Can't keep up with this thread at all.

I reckon we're going to struggle throughout these ODIs trying to get Williamson and Taylor out provided your openers can provide decent starts.

ffs gavaskar just said what i wanted to. cbf finishing this post now.

It's quite amazing how much of a liability Ishant is. NZ were actually under a touch of pressure when he came onto bowl. He totally let Guptill off the hook, too.
