***Official*** Pakistan v Sri Lanka in UAE 2013/14

I hope Pakistan get these last two wickets quickly and go for the runs; they have little to lose and it would be fun.

Don't see the problem with the way Sri Lanka are playing. Everyone gets annoyed when a side plays defensively to preserve a series lead but I think I'd rather win 1-0 in an ugly manner than please everyone and let the series slip.

I think people seem to be misinterpreting me. The point I was making was that Perera bowled a similarly defensive line to Herath, but because the batsmen didn't get themselves out to him, Perera bowled badly and Herath bowled to the plan? Sorry, no.

I don't have any issue with Sri Lanka's match tactics.

Herath is just a much, much better bowler than Perera so of course we're going to credit him with having bowled well when he's taken wickets, even if the mode in which he took wickets was a bit negative.

Also, valiant of Pakistan to go for the win here but it's way out of the realms of possibility. Will struggle to get to 250 in the allotted time, let alone 300.

Well you're wrong to do so..

Herath and Perera send down the same thing but the batsman happens to get himself out against Herath rather than Perera. If Misbah decided to **** one into midwicket's hands off Perera, despite bowling exactly the same ball, does it suddenly make it a better ball?

Pretty much sums up Herath's career though; rather than taking wickets it almost seems like he just happens to be bowling when wickets fall. No-one is truly that lucky though so there's clearly just something there we're not seeing.

We may technically be wrong but if you want to extend your line of thinking towards its natural conclusion you can say that a half volley is just as good as an inswinging yorker if they both get the wicket.

Now I know you're not saying that, just saying that context is quite important for me. Whenever I've seen Herath bowl it's been the smartest spin bowling since Warne. I tend to think that he's just superb at executing plans, and if that plan is negative cricket and he picks up 5 for I'm happy to give him credit for it.

I didn't watch too much so I didn't see how Perera bowled tbh.

I really don't get how you can say this. I know you've watched a lot of cricket but it's really weird that you don't see how gun Herath is.

He turns the ball when he needs to, drifts it massively, has the best arm ball I've ever seen, and also has a carrom ball that he doesn't over-use. What's not to like?

Doesn't really cut it here though does it? Particularly not when using it as a stick to beat Perera with, who appears to be doing very little differently to Herath.

"Perera looks like he's bowling similarly to Herath but he's not getting wickets so he's obviously not doing that thing that we don't know."

FTR, I'm talking solely in the context of the match. It's pretty obvious both bowlers have been asked to bowl in such a way, but ITT Herath is worshipped and Perera's already being dismissed.
