Cricket Web: All-Time Legend
Wow incredible that this thread already get so many replies. Changes only just got announced/leaked.

Its too late to contribute now, cbf. But I think we all agree that cricket is now and will forever be one of the worst run sports. I have just learned to deal with it.
Cricket is GE compared to rugby league

Back to the situation, NZC are attempting to get in bed with the big three.

Shift in power can be good for NZ cricket - Snedden - Cricket - NZ Herald News

Has he not heard about the enforced promotion-relegation system? This sounds just like the attempted smoke screen from the Taylor captaincy shenanigans.

Cricket: Diplomacy a new game for Snedden - Cricket - NZ Herald News
Sneddon is either being realistic that he can't change anything anyway so is just going along with it. Or b) he has been sold a bill of goods with verbal promises of future tours that may or may not be upheld later.

Really if the other "lesser nations" were smart they should threaten to go it alone and concede they won't be playing much against the top 3 anymore and voluntarily form their own league and play exclusively amongst themselves. At least that would show the top 3 they are splitting world cricket and may give Sneddon and company a bargaining chip. Although good luck at forming a functional cartel with Windies and PCB involved I guess. I apologize if i am repeating someone else's post I read the first 3 pages and the last two.

As a second post - I am surprised the Aussies aren't looking out for us more - and if I were Sneddon I would pull some political strings given how closely our countries are tied together. Still I guess there is a precedent they refused to play us for 30 years didn't they after a particular thrashing.

Well, I mean, what exactly are we supposed to do?

I don't want to be prescriptive about specific issues that Australia as a member of the cartel may wish to modify as I would have to give that a lot of thought - basically however they have the power to make some improvements to the proposal.

Oh I thought you meant Aussies as in us as opposed to CA.

Not sure why you thought CA would be looking out for anyone but CA, though.

Yes I thought about the form-your-own-league option as the immediate angry reaction to the proposal. Apart from the fact that it's even more divisive, the bolded part is the massive problem with the idea - far too easy to divide and conquer (tbh wouldn't expect our board to be a great deal better either).

For now, BCCI, ECB and CA hold pretty much all the cards and other boards are going to get used to going with cap in hand and hoping for patronage.

Seriously, how bizarre is the draft's proposal for 2 tiered test cricket?

In the hypothetical instance that New Zealand were to lose to Zimbabwe in the 8 v 9 playoff, New Zealand would continue to get to play test cricket against the top 8 nations as agreed in their bilateral FTP contracts (which apparently are all going to be signed off later this year). Throw in the fact that 3 of the top 8 nations can't be relegated anyway and the proposed 2-tiered system looks just ****. Itl utterly fails in its desired goal of making test cricket more meaningful by virtue of the fact that dropping down to division 2 is so meaningless.

a win for the likes system; straw man's post was far too long to be bothered with, but on the strength of his previous and the number of likes had a look, and what a post.

Totally agreed. The tier system needs a forced league or it's worthless.

At least the second tier will still have the forced league, right? The intercontinental cup is still going to happen?

Eight teams are also too many. It should be 6. And there should be three tiers. They should all be run like the current intercontinental cup; just with three matches each time and with a return tour (making the turnaround four instead of two years). Leeway can be given for tours that want to be longer, but standard should be three tests (/FC) and 5 ODIs. Qualification for the last tier would depend on WCL (ODI/List A) performance, as it is now done - the name can also stay. The ODI leagues will run concurrently as it's now also done at top associate game. It's such a great model they currently have for the WCL, that it simply needs to find its way to the top.

Considering the three exceptions to the rule... I don't agree with it, but it might not mean much in any case. The only real possibility is England going down to six, but even that seems unlikely.

Imagine CSA will also join the 3 if Lorgat is kicked out for good by his own people. I mean is it going to be any different to what is happening now? The 3/4 at the top aren't going to rock the boat as long as the status quo is maintained and they will continue to play whoever is available. I don't get how this has riled people up so much when the act is merely confirming the suspicions people have had for a long while. ****s have just taken their masks off is all it is.

Looking forward to the the 2050s when I can look down on cricket fans and say how great Test cricket was back in the day and how **** T10 cricket is.

It may be fruitless, but I'm glad that CSA is at least speaking up against the proposal. Sadly, I expect that they'll be the only ones and every other board will fall in line.
