My sandgroper spies have just informed me that Shaun Marsh will be resurrected today

Bailey to miss the Test squad altogether

Wrong.

Bailey axed the Australian reporting. Won't even make touring party.

From The Australian (subscription only)

The squad for South Africa will be announced today and is expected to include 15 players

Bailey has been dropped from the Australian Test team and will not even make the touring squad for the South African series which begins next month

Shaun Marsh will be added to the touring party to make up for the loss of Bailey.

Bailey's absence from the squad opens up a position in the side, which leaves the selectors with a number of options.

Bowling allrounder James Faulkner could slot in at six and provide some back-up to the pacemen who have endured a long summer, or a batsman such as Doolan or Marsh could be included.

The more radical approach could see Shane Watson moved from first drop to sixth and Doolan, Marsh or another specialist batsman take that key position.

The others likely to join the South African squad include bowlers James Pattinson, Jackson Bird and Nathan Coulter-Nile, although one of them will be left behind to play in the Shield games as only injury will stop the same three pacemen playing the first Test in South Africa as played the Ashes summer

Not that averages are everything but:

Marsh averaged 34 in FC cricket this Summer

Doolan 39

Hughes 61

Hughes may have to bide his time until Rogers is off the scene

Hughes has looked like **** all summer and seems to have regressed if anything

Reckon the Oz selectors will set the bar higher for him than others from now on as there is nothing about his game to inspire confidence that this time will be any different from the past

Marsh? **** me dead.

Yes I will have to admit there is an outside chance that some ODI form will lead to a joyous revelation of the new 'Good Shaun' like we had with MJ, but you know in your heart of hearts that we're just swapping one severely inadequate red ball player with some ability in the shorter formats for another.

Howard's stats don't even tell half the story. The only runs Marsh has made in the Shield all season were when the **** was hiding down at 5 against a pretty weak Vic attack (McKay, Haberfield, Hastings, Christian) that North, Bancroft and Voges had already slapped around for 3/303 before the useless **** came to the wicket. They were the cheapest of cheap runs.

In a way I do hope he gets picked and they do something funky like put him at three so that Steyn, Philander and Morkel can work him over worse than Zaheer and Yadav did so that we can put this stupid obsession with an obvious fraud to bed once and for all.

Tipping Marsh to make more runs for the series than Rogers if they're both selected for the same amount of games.

Hoping they just leave Watson at first drop at least for this series

Yes he is a frustrating under-achiever sometimes but 345 runs for the just completed Ashes series, with 1 century and two half centuries, on the back of his century at The Oval

is defintely perferable to popping Doolan or Marsh in there against the two best quicks in the world - you'll kill off their careers potentially

The newbie should come in at five or six

Listen to AB ****s. Just listen to AB

But ex-captain and former national selector Allan Border strongly believes that South Australian opener Phil Hughes, who made such a memorable entrance to Test cricket in South Africa five years ago and was in sparkling form in early season Bupa Sheffield Shield games, should go ahead of Doolan.

“There’s no-one really knocking the door down with hundred after hundred after hundred - I mean Doolan is averaging in the 30s,” Border told radio 2SM on Friday.

“I have a very soft spot for young (Phil) Hughes and I think he’s been badly treated in the past.

“Maybe they’re just making him really earn his stripes again this time.

“He’s just so far in front of any other contender it’s not funny so I’m hoping they’ll take Hughes on the plane (to South Africa).

“It looks like Doolan’s jumped in front of him and I’m not 100 per cent sure why, I think Hughes is definitely in the frame.”

Doolan and Hughes should be the ones.

Doolan has a test game, I'm telling you, it has the potential to stand up and numbers don't show that.
