A lot of good young guys though and you have to remember how low our population is compared to other tennis epicenters.

Tomic is a **** but has the talent, and Kyrigios (in particular) and Kokkinakis have showed a lot at junior level. Tennis in Aust is much better than it was around 2008 or so.

Blokes like Ebden, Matosevic etc. are rubbish but aren't that young and aren't the future so you shouldn't look to them.. Woodbridge was calling Ebden as mentally soft and someone who can't put away an opponent halfway through the first set. Brilliant call.

Day 2 was profitable, with another retirement saving the day.

Day 3 suggestions of value:

- Querrey @$2.85 to beat Gulbis
Another glorious day with Querrey doing the business, this time as an underdog.

Day 4 suggestions of value:

- Simon @4.40 to beat Cilic

Great value, but lower stake on this one boys. Maybe half the units you would have put on Querrey, and 1/5 you would have put on Nishikori. Unclear how Simon will come back from his marathon first round match, but Cilic played 5 sets too and has never beaten Simon.

The comms are bringing up the heat every 30 seconds on so, unbelievable. Not a good advertisement for Australia hosting the tournament in January.

Has there been talk about moving the tournament to a different part of the year? Would seem to make the most logical sense given what a lot of players have said.

I seem to remember a few years back that they were considering playing the tournament in March. With AFL being played, Melbourne F1 on then and no school holidays are likely to be reasons why it isn't considered a good idea. Basically, this is a perfect time for tennis IMO. I just think more games need to be scheduled at night.

Makes sense. I suppose the organisers of the Australian Open just need to be careful however that the top players don't end up boycotting the tournament due to the conditions. Perhaps eventually if this keeps up year after year, it will have to go down the route of what they're doing with the Qatar Football World Cup and all the courts will have to be enclosed and air-coned.

I'm watching the Tsonga match at the moment and the commentators are saying it's an extra 8-10 degrees on court itself, making it an incredible 50 degrees.

I'm wondering what the weather is like in Geelong before I make my decision as to whether extreme heat policy should have been implemented.

Nah good work tournament organizers, it is clearly bad conditions for tennis. The loser of these 2nd round matches deserve their 50K. not the ones who retire..

imagine if the Isner and Mahut match was played in this heat.

actually now that I think about it Isner would've retired early on
