i dont think that india will do well on the seaming wickets that they will face in New Zealand, its not an easy place to bat...
Pitches in NZ are complete roads these days. I reckon on balance it's just about the easiest country to bat in overall these days, possibly Bangladesh aside.

Really? They dont show many NZ matches here in the UK and i was going on what i had seen a few years ago when they were on tv more here..

Yeah common mistake really, no biggie.

You can get some swing sometimes with the new ball if you pitch it up and the pitches obviously aren't completely homogeneous from venue to venue, but the wickets offer very little seam movement, don't break at all and pretty much come on at the ideal consistent pace and carry for batting most of the time.

Apparently Hesson has requested that the pitches offer a bit to the quicks so they may alter that a little deliberately, but if they play how they have recently then we'll be seeing some great batting conditions.

The most recent basin reserve pitch was perfect though. About a 250-300 par wicket. A healthy bit of seam movement early, but nothing excessive. Good pace in it so there was value for shots, and the bounce was nice and consistent. If they get it like that again, we'll see some great cricket.

Also, although Eden Park is a road most of the time, there's usually a bit of swing around and it often at least has good carry.

The basin is actually really hard to predict. Last time India came, there was turn and bounce early on, and the breeze meant heaps of drift for Harbhajan. He cleaned up. Could see that happening again tbh.

Does anyone know why Hamilton is getting two ODI's? Seems like very curious scheduling. On a semi-related note, how come there are no internationals ever played in Tauranga? Would seem like a decent sort of location for LO cricket - good ground, nice weather, decent-sized urban area, a relatively strong local cricket community. Same goes for Whangarei - they had bigger crowds at the NZA v England games than for some of the one dayers.

Here is the squad I predict for the first test.

Fulton
Rutherford
Williamson
Taylor
McCullum
Anderson
Watling
Sodhi
Southee
Wagner
Boult

Milne or Bennett (most likely Milne)
Ryder

The selectors will get a pace boner and will want to sit on the Ryder-is-better-than-Baz-but-should-Baz-open? conundrum for at least another test. If India score a billion at Auckland (and it's Auckland so if it doesn't swing...) then you can lock in the fast bowler for a test debut at Wellington.

Heavily doubt that Milne is going to be anywhere near the test squad. Given the type of pitches that are likely to be on offer at Hamilton and Napier, combined with the small square boundaries I find it very difficult to believe that he's going to bowl himself into contention during the ODI's.

There's only four grounds with adequate lights and all games must be day-nighters (to get that $50-60m they want), David White said at the time.

I can see some merit in their profiling/stereotyping there, not giving Auckland or Wellington two ODIs and a Test. When you think of Auckland and Wellington atm you think of Bryan Waddle sitting at a table with Chris Rattue and Joseph Romanos, rubbishing Bradburn's "Big Bash mobile app", and rubbishing the prospect of two LO games of the same format in their home city.

Tauranga only finished their pavilion about a month ago, has been portacabins for about 5 years. So expect an ODI in the next year or two.

As for the specific venues for the ODIs v India. They all have floodlights, and therefore good broadcasting times into India, Hamilton twice is still a bit odd though.

They don't step foot in the South Island the entire tour.

Milne to be conveniently rotated out of the eleven at Napier and Hamilton. I don't think he needs to bowl all that well to get picked - he just needs to hit 150 enough and scone someone/take 2 wickets to make the selectors forget Matt Henry, Hamish Bennett and Ben Wheeler exist. Failing that, Bennett will get the gig.

And if he does reproduce the inswing at pace he showed on the A tour he's instantly in the eleven for Eden Park. Bowlers who get the big heart, bowls all day label like Wagner usually cop the brunt of the harsh droppings. NZC have been hunting for the next Bond for a long time, plucking Andy McKay and Hamish Bennett out of relative obscurity along the way. Southee and Boult have temporarily kept the FBC at bay but the speed of Milne and Bennett will be awfully tempting for them if India rack up 500/5 at Eden Park and Wagner and Sodhi go the distance.

Edit: Hell, a coming of age destruction of India in the ODIs with the A tour inswing that turned him from cheap speed porn to serious prospect and I can promise you the printer at Phlegm Proganda Peddlers will be desperately short of paper and ink.

Has anyone seen Bennett on the speed-gun so far this season? Worth remembering that he wasn't truly fast even before his back injury (fastest I remember him bowling was about 145). Though I'm not sure whether the speed guns they use for the HRV Cup are the same as those for the internationals. All our regular internationals seem to be about 5kmh down on their usual speeds - though I suppose that could just be them bowling within themselves

Never gonna happen.

Don't think we have. I've just been judging by eye which is pretty unreliable (Mitch M, Neesham). Looks quick though, and the bounce is ***c. He's getting more lift than any other domestic bowler I've seen.

Ah OK, that makes sense. I guess with Auckland and Wellington both getting test matches they don't want to oversaturate those markets. Still, they could've always wheeled round those temporary lights that they've been using for the HRV Cup to one of the rural venues.
