Could have put a tenner on the mod team putting washing out potty mouths ahead of the forum atmosphere and know you had a safe bet tbh.

Pull this **** at chez Heef and I'll have you in the garden on weeding duty.

I was almost going to put an "except for Heef " clause in there, but figured corruption wouldn't be looked upon too favourably by the powers that be.

@Jono - as I indicated to Dan in the crabs subbie I will probably take a day off to join you and Dan at the test. I just need to find out if I can get the time off first and will message you both next week.

Thanks

Awesome, it'll be a Basin Reserve party!

It seems like ticket go on sale on 16 January and you can choose between "RA Vance Stand" and "General Admission" with the same prices. Is there any one I should specifically choose? I'm not too familiar with the Basin Reserve.

Definitely general admission. Then you get to sit on the bank rather than in the dingy stand. And it is dingy. It can be nice to hide in the shade of the stand when the sun comes out, but other than that, the bank's the place to be.

Yeah the whole point I'm going to the Wellington test and not the Auckland test is for the Basin Reserve bank (and because PEWS told me to go to this one) and figured the stand may block you from getting on the bank.

Thanks Heath, will get general ad.

Yeah definitely general admission. And if and when the sun gets too hot there are some general access stands beneath the RA Vance stand that are shielded from the sun. Those stands are right beside the sight screen too so you get an awesome view of the players techniques which when the Indian team were here last time was a real education and an absolute treat to watch. I know you have seen many games live but you really do learn more about a player's technique live than on TV and you will find yourself quite close to the boundary at the basin no matter where you are.

Getting pumped just talking about it!

Also I already passed this tip on Dan but when you get here buy the maximum strength sun screen and wear it each day - I am pretty sure our sun is harsher than the Aussie sun and I have been badly burned at games before despite not having a fair complexion.

Are Dan and Jono able to get the cheaper prices through blackcaps.co.nz, or is that only for locals? Reduces a 5 day test match pass from $90 to $45

Nah, you should be fine with spf 30 as long as you reapply every 2-3 hours
Will do. I'm brown as well which helps. #melanin

This the "Blackcap Priority Ticket" stuff? I've signed up for that, seems I am able to get it.

I presume they are letting you show your pass in and out of the Vance Stand's gate atm (there's no way to avail yourself of the infamous toilets down on the left, or the food cart, or the museum otherwise). Being in the Vance Stand does let you see every field setting really beautifully, so it would be a handy option to have up your sleeve, providing they promise to let you out and not make it like prison, obvs.

Ask that guy on his blog if you like -

Slightly Intrepid: Basin Reserve, 2nd Test, Day 3

This was my first time seeing a match from a seat in the Vance Stand. It affords an excellent view, although the rusty supports probably need looking at if it's to avoid going the same way as the currently off-limits Museum Stand. From my position at the very top of the stand, seated with visiting pals Anne & Cecil down from Auckland, it was possible to survey the whole ground, and beyond to the planned site of the reviled and misguided Basin Reserve flyover. The top of the Vance also turned out to be a meeting place for several cricket personages: first the row in front of us sported New Zealand director of cricket John Buchanan, and later injured batsman Martin Guptill and her off the telly, cricket presenter Laura McGoldrick.
