Ronchi is really not very good at this finisher thing
If you start seriously considering that then it means Ronchi really isn't worth his placeYou could make a legitimate case for NcCullum to bat ahead of Ronchi. Very handy batsman.
Well, maybe, but my comment was more about NcCullum's awesomeness than Ronchi's poor batting form.If you start seriously considering that then it means Ronchi really isn't worth his place
Ridiculous sentiment, the 300+ figure was only ever in question after the platform he and Ryder set.Agree with wellAlbidarned's thoughts surrounding Guptill's innings.
Guptill cost us a 300+ score here and just put too much pressure on Ryder and Williamson. With our depth in batting with this lineup and the quality of the surface, there's no excuse to be scoring at the rate he was.
Thankfully, some late order hitting got us to what is probably a just below par score given the conditions. I reckon we'll still win however given the lack of quality in the WIndies batting lineup.
It's very simplistic to take Guptill's final score and say that's a fair indication of a decent innings. Guptill didn't just score slowly at the start of the innings, he had THREE RUNS OFF THIRTY BALLS. That's seriously damaging for the mindset of the batsman at the other end and no doubt assisted in the demise of Williamson and Ryder.Ridiculous sentiment, the 300+ figure was only ever in question after the platform he and Ryder set.
If you're going to change this to a situation where someone else opened instead of Guptill and scored quickly you're missing the fact that Holder bowled well, deserved wickets and no one besides Guppy passed 50.
Yeah, I agree. At the start of the game I was thinking par would be around 275. All the batsmen struggled to time the ball at some point during their innings. Not the easiest pitch to bat on, but not the worst either, imo.Good score.
Took the words out of my mouth with this in response to Athlai. Was exactly what I was going to say. It's very simplistic to take Guptill's final score and say that's a fair indication of a decent innings. If after this game McHesson comes out and says that their plan was to get NZ to 200/1-2 wickets by the 35th over and to launch from there and Guptill was told to play the anchor. Will you still feel the same way?Took the words out of my mouth with this in response to Athlai. Was exactly what I was going to say.
There's no doubt Holder bowled well, but you need the ability to be able to tick over the singles and rotate the strike. Guptill failed to do that and the direct result was the wickets of Ryder and Williamson who felt the pressure to up the scoring rate because of how Guptill was batting.
Yeah I think MArtin had sped up by the time Kane got out.If after this game McHesson comes out and says that their plan was to get NZ to 200/1-2 wickets by the 35th over and to launch from there and Guptill was told to play the anchor. Will you still feel the same way?
Ryder's innings for mine was exactly how he always play the game, he naturally doesn't feel comfortable unless hitting boundaries. The Williamson argument is probably more apt but I'd argue that Guptill was well established and playing a decent knock after his Kane's first few overs at the crease.
