Kieswetter will probably regret the 20 or so balls he used up playing pre determined forward defences or leaves. Or not given he never seems to improve that part of his game.
The over against O'Keefe late on where he just patted two balls back after he's faced 30 odd balls just encapsulated everything wrong with the bloke. Yeah, he comes down and whacks a massive bomb later in the over, but he has to do that; makes it hard for himself. Still ends up chewing up the most balls of anyone to go at less than 100. Grotesque stuff.

Hopes has form for that crap as well. Remember him opening and finished unbeaten in one of the earlier T20 competitions whilst striking below 100.
Haha I remember that game  Seemed to take it upon himself to anchor the side a lot that tournament, and then had commentators blowing smoke up his arse towards the end of the season because of his batting average.

I don't know enough about Brissy grade cricket or Sabburg in general to say he was a poor selection, especially if Hartley was the only other option, but Cutting definitely should've come in at 6 regardless of that.

And yet without a miracle catch, he would have probably scored 60 and won them the game.

Puzzling batting line up from the Heat, Sabburg looks a rather awful batsmen.

Do you remember who it was against? Trying to find a scorecard but have so far been unsuccessful.

yes it's horrible to watch especially as there is some talent there.

His mindset just seems wrong. Rather than looking to score off every ball and if they bowl you a good delivery defending it, he decides before the ball what shot he is playing. The big shots have to have some predetermined nature about them but the rest he needs more flexibility.

It's not even like it's a hard thing to change. It's just mindset and gameplan. How hard can it be for the Somerset or England coaches to work on this part of his game. But if anything he seems to have got worse.

So he has to play a big dirty slog against Brett Lee, because he's still making time up because he's feeling pressure from still not being above 100 S/R?

He doesn't play the odds, he has to play massive shots too often because he doesn't rotate the strike enough; you could deal with it if you could see some intent, but he just pats them back far too often. He's like the uber-gun English league cricketer.

The worst part, for me, is that he's not hanging around so he can pick balls in his zone. The balls he does go at are seemingly random - his big shots are caused purely by the pressure he puts on himself on not on his batting plan to target certain deliveries. Another example of a very boundary-reliant T20 batsman who doesn't have a massive strike rate is Lendl Simmons, and he makes it work by waiting for balls he can either pull or play inside out over cover - his two go-to shots. CK's big shots appear when he's blocked himself into a corner; everything is premeditated to the point that what sort of delivery the bowler sends down is almost irrelevant.

Cutting and Lyon are our two best limited over bats (well perhaps along with Khawaja in the ODD's....). How can you leave a guy who, this season, has smacked 98* off 48 balls in Ryobi Cup and then 41 off 21 in the final and is a proven quality hitter in limited overs to come in at number 8 behind a guy who won a spot from a Brisbane Grade competition and Hopes who is 5 years past his best, has an injury every third game and hasn't made a decent T20 score in yonks. How can they justify Christian at 4 when Cutting is both a better batsman and bowler than him.

They should stop pigeon holing Cutting as a specialist bowler in limited overs build him up as a far superior version of Dan Christian.

Now that the series is gone for the Heat they should give Cutting a run at number 5 with Lynn at 4 and give the Heat crowds something to cheer about.

Yeah I am not really defending him, just pointing out the irony of it. I like CK, but agree that his mindset is totally out of wack. The pre-meditated forward defences are the most infuriating, especially as he has pretty much all the boundary shots you need.
