Pietersen has probably been in worse form, not sure, but for Bell and Cook this isn't the worst. Not for me.
Pietersen has still made by far the most runs of the England players and heads the averages:

Pietersen 285 runs at 35.6
Stokes 200 runs at 33.3
Bell 217 runs at 31.0
Carberry 238 runs at 29.8
Cook 232 runs at 29.0
Root 192 runs at 27.42
Prior 107 runs at 17.8
and forget the rest.

All the batsmen were in worse form in the UAE tbh, apart from Trott and Prior. Again, it's how you define form. Their worst output was probably the UAE, not necessarily their game being in the worst order.

Although that is definitely true for Bell and KP. Combine them with Morgan and that has to be the worst performance by a middle order in a series of 3 Tests or over ever. It was that bad.

If we compare the England batting averages above to the Australian ones, only Smith of the recognized batsmen is lower than Pietersen, who is England's highest :

Warner 491 runs at 70.1
Haddin 390 runs at 65.0
Clarke 347 runs at 49.6
Watson 293 runs at 41.9
Rogers 333 runs at 41.6
Johnson 149 runs at 37.3
(Pietersen 285 runs at 35.6)
Smith 205 runs at 34.2

Hooksey, just curious as to the point of these stats?? Are you trying to prove that Australia dominated the series in every facet??.........don't think there is anyone here that is not up to speed on this revelation.

So glad you both asked.

I posted them in response to someone raising the idea Pietersen might be in the worst form of his career, and as the averages demonstrate he has still made by far the most runs and has the best average of the England players.

The lists also show that Johnson with 31 wickets at 14.3 and 149 runs at 37.3 heads every Englishman in both batting and bowling averages, and is the single biggest difference between the teams.

Stokes has 7 wickets @ 47.3. Swann was the one that averaged 80.

Apologies to Stokes. Copied them out of the newspaper eating raisin toast and drinking coffee at the time.

So how does the fact he tops the team averages suggest anything about his career form? Its possible he is in the worse form of his career (he isn't but still possible) and is still the best bat England have had on tour.

Absolutely, and I think that's the case.

...this earlier post further endorses my agreement with your theory :

The common theme is how many of the touring party are currently in the worst form of their lives.

The Australian dominance has reduced a list of this England team to the worst form of their life - starting with Trott, Swann, Prior, and now add Pietersen, Bell and Cook, and probably others.

Yeah exactly. Form is relative.
