A long time ago now, but he basically told me that choosing the Thunder because I lived in the west was silly because they were distancing themselves from the western Sydney thing and just trying to market themselves as the exciting/better Sydney franchise who signed Warner and Gayle, and that ultimately they were a rabble who'd fall apart.

The Sixers on the other hand had strong ties to Cricket NSW and Sydney as a whole and were trying to give a new franchise some depth and meaning from the start. The pink strips, the whole Stuart Clark succession idea, the policy of giving blokes from grade cricket like Thornely and Moran a chance to showcase cricket in the region as well as picking up most of the NSW side.. etc etc. Signing Corey Richards as batting coach was icing on the cake.
