This has been such a gun session. Was quite demotivated about this test with the rain early but a rampaging Steyn and now this partnership fighting some good bowling has made this awesome.

Rahane seems to me like the kind of guy who's destined to open or bat 3, haven't yet seen the kind of strokeplay I'd expect from a no 6, very solid though

Apparently he was offered the opening spot and said he'd rather wait for a middle order spot to open up. It seems strange to me because while I agree that #3 would be his best spot and while that's the position he bats in domestically, I think he'd suit opening more than he suits six, especially at home.

What? He told them that he doesn't want the slot that is available and would wait until a slot open up? Seriously?

Apparently so. I guess it was easy to see there was going to be another slot opening up soon with a 39 year old batting four, but yeah, weird.
