What do SA hope to achieve by going off for bad light like the comms suggest? You don't give up after 60 overs on day 1 of a test match.
They realise that their bowlers cannot measure up to the Indian batsmen the way things stand so would probably take a draw to protect their ranking from more damage.

Not at all, but there has been ludicrous demands and I would not be susprised if demands was mademon the venues as well.
Or maybe it was a venue that would sell out for sure compared to the others because of the Indian population and the administrators decided to select the venue because of that?.

Whatever the case, and whomever had their finger in the pie, the decision will always be made on the basis of maximising profit. The Proteas be damned.

If they pick a Test match based on which venue has more attendance, isn't that looking out for the interest of cricket?

No, firstly because they didn't pick the venues on the bases of best attendance; Newlands is always the best attended and Centurion is second. It can be argued that Durban should get a game against India because it will have attendance, unlike when West Indies tour and there are 5 people in the stand - on boxing day. It doesn't however hold sway because Durban always hosts the boxing day match - and there seems to be a fear of breaking from the tradition.

Secondly, sometimes the interest of maximising profits is also in the interest of X. That however does not mean that there is actually any interest in X from the management. This can be shown in a variety of bad decisions CSA has made over the years which is not in the interest of Cricket.

I have been really impressed by the way India have gone about playing the test matches. I think most people had written them off after the showing in the ODIs. Going great guns so far.

While I would have taken a drawn series vs SA if you had offered it at the beginning, it would be quite dissapointing now if it turns out that way, especially if it's the weather that does it.
