True and that was against SA too wasn't it? In the series Laxman and Dravid were injured. Still, he scored fifty in that 1 innings and about five in the other 2. Not particularly impressive. Obviously it is a ridiculously small sample size to come to any meaningful conclusion but he looked pretty rubbish too for mine. Not only in the couple of tests he played but also in the handful of ODIs he played. Just seemed to be totally out of his depth.

People were making similar comments about MJ at Perth - though I think Steyn is a bit more obviously out of form just ever-so-slightly.

It happens. Nothing much needs to be read into it IMO.
Steyn's terminal decline begins. You heard it here first.

Seriously though it's bittersweet seeing him being bashed around because I was telling all my friends he'd rip us apart like the last tour, while they were confident Kohli and Pujara would handle him.... and then this happens.
It's weird because every time I watch him bowl, I want him to destroy the opposition, even if it's us

From what I saw this morning, his main issue is swing. It's always been a more critical part of his armoury than pace, but at the moment he just isn't getting much shape.

Yeah I was hanging out for a sub-50 score (nothing personal, they're just fun to watch when not involving your own team ) but he's just missing a bit at the moment. Hard to pin down.

He doesn't seem to have quite the same control, and has trouble sticking to that really dangerous attacking length at the moment. It might just not be coming out of the hand properly, a simple form issue that could fix itself in one innings.

Steyn said that the Indian batsmen were scared, and all these things happening after that comment would have made him really frustated.

Can add "goddamn unlucky" to this too.

Flat deck indeed. The Indians will struggle to take 20 South African wickets. Steyn, though, is having a poor series so far, but one good spell can still change it.
