Heh. I was just thinking today that with Kallis out the picture, none of the other top batsmen in the world being able to bowl at all (besides Clarke who doesn't do it because of his back) and Prior's poor form essentially making de Villiers a sure selection as wicket keeper in a World XI, that Ashwin may actually make actually have a claim to selection in that hypothetical that side as an allrounder batting at seven. Now he can't make India's side ahead of Jadeja.

I like Jadeja a lot more than most on this forum and he's probably going to perform the exact same role with the ball in these conditions as Ashwin anyway so I understand the call to a degree, but Ashwin is more likely to score runs in these conditions than Jadeja anyway IMO. I don't think it's likely to make an iota of different to how this match plays out, but it's an odd one.

Think they did it to please kallis's selfish demand that he retires as the best AR among the two teams in his last test.
Well, he's got his wish.... Arguably

India haven't faced Kyle Abbott at all nor have they seen much of him, SA should have picked him rather than risking Morkel. All the planning, preparation to face Morkel would have gone out of the window and m sure it would have been much difficult to face someone like Abbott in such conditions without any strategy or plan to face him.

Jadeja's selection is probably because of the number of right handers in SA's line up. Keep in mind that Jadeja is the best fielder India has, and we've seen the kind of affect good fielding can have on a test match with Rahane getting 2 run outs.

Yeah, can't see Jadeja contributing much when there is little turn on offer - it nullifies his natural variation.

Good start from the Indians, although the South Africans haven't really hit the right areas enough so far

Jadeja in a four man bowling attack? That doesn't make sense. Ashwin is a better bat too against good quality bowling.

I still have some confidence in Jadeja's batting. He actually got selected for the Indian team on the basis of his batting..

They could have dropped Sharma instead of Ashwin though since he's a good enough bat and make a significant contribution, and he can share the bowling workload, this wicket really is looking like one that would require a fair bit of overs to bowl a side out.

I'm not watching the game. Have they beaten the bat yet? Has it even swing that much? Run rate makes it seem like a strong start

Dhoni is such a jackass when it comes to selection. Always has been. And this will be true even if the Jadeja selection works.

Should have been: Bhuvi | Ojha | Umesh | Shami

We would have won with this combo.
