Lol at expecting tailenders to bat like proper batsman and saying that you can push and take a single. If it was that easy, SA should have won by an innings. If Philander nicked it, it would have sent others coming to bat into panic mode.

Philander, the tail ender with an average of 23 and coming off a 60 in the first innings. Steyn, the guy who famously fought it out vs Australia in a much more dire situation, and the man that was being bred to be our number 8 before Philander established himself.

Besides, the point isn't that they could or couldn't do it, the point is they didn't try. Again.
Shame Steyn and other tailenders couldnt do this in India when Amla almost singlehandedly won the series.

If Philander had nicked it he'd probably have gotten four runs because every fielder was on the boundary.

I didn't really mind though. We go into Durban even Stevens atleast. What pisses me off is that if SA win in Durban, people will turn around and say "See, the tactics were right, they en the serues" . **** that. Wht the **** wouldn't you want to win NOW when things are obviously in your favour? It's just stupid beyond measure
Since when is getting a run-a-ball with 2.5 wickets left in the batting team's favour, when the opposition has all fielders in the boundary? India needed three balls to win, surely they were favourites.

Yes, 16 off 18 balls is the same as getting 57 runs just to make the opposition bat again.
Also it's not as if Steyn, morkel, Harris and parnell batted 160 balls between them that day in kolkata
Oh, wait

That's like saying if the target is a 100, the bowling use are favorites because they only need 10 balls to win. Ridiculous.

SA were in a far, far better position to ein at that stage than one. I don't know how people can have an other opinion

Parnell is a good batsman and could make first class teams purely on it.

Steyn and Morkel have both regressed in batting ability.

Exactly. And people think Steyn is a better tail-ender when he hasn't done anything since for many innings now? How long did he even last in the firs innings? SA fans should be grateful that Vern didn't throw away his wicket otherwise they would have lost.

What 57 runs? SA had just an over to block out to secure a draw and win the series IIRC.

I'm glad you remember that. People have short memories. Didn't Harbajan take the wicket in the last over, or one of the last few?
