Yeah given Tahir and an injured Morkel I don't actually blame them for taking the draw. I do blame Faf for trying that single. Given how easily both of them were scoring boundaries it was a brain-dead decision. He played an amazing knock but he really blew it in the end.

That explains leaving deliveries maybe. It does not explain turning down free runs. Take some of those singles and its only 11-12 to win off the last over. You then back yourself to not lose 3 wickets in 4-6 balls.

Yeah, I thought the same. You also have to know the fielders. If it's Zaheer Khan, that's one thing. It was Rahane who had already run out Smith with a direct hit.

Considering how spread the field was, it likely would have been 8-9 runs off the last over even if they only took singles with zero risk.
