Yeah I wouldn't be giving up yet.
You've won. Narine can't get 10 wickets on his own. Somehow survive him and punish the dross at the other end. It will be an 8 wicket win just before or after lunch.

And to complete my misery I'm quite convinced I'm going to have to watch one of the most technically inept openers I've seen at test level for some time be not out at the close (Rutherford obviously). That would just about sum up this tour tbh.

WindieWeathers, I totally agree that Radford has been a huge loss. He was having an excellent effect on Powell, Edwards, Bravo and Samuels but it has all gone very downhill since he left.

I don't think Sammy should 'never wear the shirt again'. He's not the worst test cricketer ever and he bleeds for the West Indies. I'd keep him in the squad, there's just no way he should be captain or regularly in the side. He'd be useful back up in helpful bowling conditions. Deonarine has failed miserably and that will probably be it for him at international level. Tino should also go I think. His performances in some reasonably helpful conditions (by West Indian standards anyway) have been worse than useless. Most of his wickets have come from half trackers the batsmen have failed to put away. Just awful. As for Marlon Samuels, unless he finds some remarkable form in the ODI series or our FC cricket, he will need a spell on the sidelines too.

Tino Best is exactly the same cricketer in every regard when we toured the Windies in 03/04. Shocking indictment of how the W.I develop players.

Fair point, there's not much I can say to defend us against that tbh. Tino is particularly hard headed though, he doesn't listen to anybody for very long. Tried hard and is fast but at the end of the day he just isn't test class.

I'm starting to get really ****ing annoyed at the surprise the commentators have over Taylor's offside dominant batting. Have you ****s watched him since 2008? When was the last time he fell to the slog sweep in tests for less than 100?

Ian Bishop is commentating over here and by the sounds of it he has tried many times to drill how to bat and bowl into Tino's head. Not a player who listens much evidently.

Amazing day yesterday - so impressed with our guys. Taylor immense again and I wasn't unhappy with how the rest batted either, even if the wickets ended up looking a little loose particularly from Anderson and Watling. It could have been so much worse and I can think of plenty of occasions when we've just rolled over to someone with a bit of mystery like Narine, particularly with scoreboard pressure as well. Helped that Narine didn't have much support - right from the beginning I had no idea why Sammy opened up rather than going to spin from both ends.

Being near even after the first innings was a situation screaming out for our bowlers to work some magic and wow, it was fantastic. Excellent bowling from Southee and Boult, but Wagner was good too and getting Chanderpaul again was vital. Anderson continues to impress though not a single over for Sodhi doesn't say great things about how his bowling is viewed right now - hope Vettori is back for the India series and Sodhi can develop in domestix. Some woeful batting too it must be said.

Could really do with at least one opener scoring 50 here - if we're 20/2 it's going to be nerve wracking.

Then why does he continue to get picked? If he keeps playing exactly the same way, drop him and move on until he changes. Why would he change the way he plays if he is rewarded with selection? Not saying he is faultless in the process, far from it, just think that the thought processes involved with W.I cricket have been muddled for to long.

Ermm, Englands women are not looked after better than any mens team sans Zimbabwe. There are 7 players with professional contracts.

Thoughts about Styris in the comm box chaps? I like him. Measured approach with good insight.

So why is Sammy incapable of bowling 130km/h, anyone? I know watching international cricket we tend to think of 130 as 'slow' whereas in actual fact it requires a fair bit of natural ability and training. But Sammy seems a relatively athletic guy - has he ever tried really focussing on working on strength and pace? Then again his accuracy would probably suffer and that isn't great even at 120km/h.

If he has the drive, willingness to learn and grit of Hughes he will have a long and successful test career, like Hughes eventually will.

Was primarily referring to their disproportionate ability in playing through the off-side

I really really don;t rate Rutherford. Awful batsman, looks like getting out at any moment. The fact that he has struggled against this attack (which is as easy as it will get at this level lets face it) says it all. Even if he scores a few here, I don;t think he's going to make it at test level unless he does an awful lot of mental and technical work.
