***Official*** West Indies in New Zealand 2013/14

Kippax and Albi should give the Hamilton groundsmen they know a kick in the ass. What were they thinking making this wicket.
Haha yeah, there's no loyalty to be found in turf science and agribusiness I'm afraid. Mark Perham and Karl Johnson have successfully made Munro and Devcich a thing, now they're off overseas to cash in on their renown. There are sheikhs wanting that ***y reverse cup action brought to Dubai, for sure.

Despite 156/3 seeming like a reasonable start I really do not like this situation on a turning pitch one bit. If we lose Taylor early tomorrow early then barring some successful attack from McCullum and Anderson we'll concede a sizable lead (100+) and will very likely lose.
I'd say the situation is even worse than that.

If we do not get a 50+ run lead, we will probably lose. That means we need more than 400 first innings runs, which is very tough from 156/3 with only two batsmen after this pair.

So we need at the very least for Taylor to ton up plus probably another one from either McCullum, Anderson or Watling.

With KW gone It's back to New Zealand Batting Plan A Since 2008 - Taylor goes huge and 6-11 come to the party.

Maybe McCullum will prove me wrong, and if he tons up tomorrow on the perfect pitch for two spinners then I will certainly zip it, but he needs more than his double ton and the other day as pressure knocks. I realise only CW thinks McCullum skiis downhill and the media think he's our second best batsman (lol) but as much as I would like to say otherwise the results back us up, and I really want that to change since he is a specialist batsman and skipper now.

Anderson shouldn't be troubled by his weakness on this, and luckily will see lots of spin. This situation is made for Watling's temperament and he showed in Bangladesh he's much improved against spin, so hopefully he can save us as he so often has since coming into the side.

Anyway, this massive **** up with the pitch cannot be allowed to happen again. While I am all for New Zealand batsmen improving in conditions they're not used to, that's what international test and A tours are for. At home we play to our strengths without being cynical about it, which is the pitch we saw at the Basin. Foreign sides come here to face our conditions, not see their own.

I don't know how to play Narine if you're not picking the bloke. What did India do? Best method I can think of is play for the conventional offie or come down the pitch and turn it into a full toss since he doesn't use flight and hit it to hell provided they start with most of their men around the bat which they will, and then hopefully when the men go back you've ****ed with his head enough he errs in length to give you more time to read it off the pitch.

Actually, better plan - we should have broken his fingers when he batted.

I actually think we are overly slamming the pitch. Its a result pitch, and the other choice was for it to be a road. Remember that NZC didn't contact the ground staff over what to prepare and a WI win is better for the game than another draw

What's good for New Zealand cricket is good for world cricket, and the golden cricketing age worldwide of the 1980s shows when New Zealand is strong, cricket is strong. Cricket needs a strong New Zealand

DWTA - we don't want a results pitch for the other team.

I am deeply dissapointed with the groundsman  no obviously I am not. He obviously thought he would create an interesting pitch. I just wish he had've done that in a FC match instead.

maybe this should be Hamilton's last test for a while

(Joke - this last sentence is a troll)

400 will be enough. Trust me.

Still a long way off, though.
We get to 400 say by tea on day 3. That leaves them more than a day to get to a lead of 250-ish.

No way would we be able to bat out a day or chase 250, IMO. We won't bat out more than 2 4th innings sessions. We need a substantial lead or we're screwed. Either that or rain.

Athlai

Not Terrible
But seriously Ross is just incredible lately.

If he tons up here that will see him go ahead of Clarke in the ICC rankings I reckon.

He's averaged 60 in the past two years and is entering the purple patch years lots of batsmen get in their late 20s/early 30s. He might be the first kiwi to average 50+ for a fair bit. Whether it would stay there would depend on how he manages his later years.

Definitely the 3rd best "back to the wall" batsman in the world behind Chanderpaul and Clarke.

What happened to Jerome Taylor and Fidel Edwards? Weren't they supposed to be the next great Windies fast men?
