always happy to see Virat do well was one of the early ones on this forum to call out that he will be big one day also seems to have gone down on the dick-o-meter since the last time I saw him.

Watching Kohli and Pujara last night was the most impressed I've been with two Indian batsmen away from home in a long time. The fact it came from young players against the best fast bowling attack in the world in the most alien conditions possible for Indian batsmen to face, and it's their first tour there, and it looks even better.

I'd like to acknowledge today as a special one for Jono.

It's been exactly 12 months since I bought him lunch at Verandah and he promised he'd buy me a steak in the new year. Haven't seen the bastard since.

Happy anniversary, ****.

Just watching the highlights from today's play, always sad to see so many empty seats for the start of a series between two such teams. Such a shame the Wanderers wasn't bursting at the seams in anticipation of some exciting and intriguing cricket.

Haha you know I was actually thinking of that the other day when I got an email from Verandah.

Let's sort something out in January, or are you off on holidays for most of it?

I'm back on the 13th mate. Last day is tomorrow.

Well played Kohli but we're really clutching at straws here. 255/5 is strictly honors even but we're so unused to seeing respectable scores early doors on away tours that this feels like job done. I can see us being blown away tomorrow within the hour and then SA piling on the pain.

Rahane has to be the most ungainly looking Indian batsman in a long time.

It is most definitely not job done, but the average score at Johannesburg in the first innings is not much more than 300. I don't think any team has scored 303 (or some specific number Cullinan mentioned) or more and lost the test in a long long time.

60/40 India's way on paper. Probably 50/50 in reality considering India's bowling line-up.

I am going to stick my neck out and say that Rahane is going to be the most useful Indian batsman after Kohli for the next 5 years, and he should be batting at number 5 ahead of Rohit. Today depends almost completely on Ashwin. If he bats well, we will get a nice score. I have high hopes :) If only he could keep, we could have gotten rid of this Dhoni character for overseas tours and had a proper spinner as well :D
