*Official* Third Test at the WACA

Wonder if 3 zip will encourage funky Aussie selections for the last 2 tests? Probably likely to rest Harris than change the batting. Although a Lyon dropping is defo a chance now.
They'll want 5-0 IMO.

Nathan Lyon taking a bag at Sydney would be the ultimate, one would think.

These cracks are pretty bad itbt, I haven't seen anything like it since the Windies came across in the 90's.

If this goes to a final day it could be actually dangerous to bat on.

Another very tough day of watching this Ashes series!!We really looked a very beaten side today and was very disheartening to see. There just looked a complete lack of fight, a lack of any real plans with the batting, really sloppy in the field exemplified by Matt Prior's very poor day behind the stumps (and with the bat), and bowling wise it's been difficult every third innings of the series so far due to our batsmen's inexplicable failures and the lack of pressure on Australia enabling the likes of Warner to tee off.

Personally I don't know why we don't climb into Warner. Not one player had a few words with him when he jumped towards Prior in celebration of his hundred, I'm afraid rightly or wrongly I'd have blown my top at him for that, but we look like we've had any fight we did have well and truly removed. As ever he rode his luck today but he sends out a great message with his intent, he won't always be able to take advantage of the luck he's having but he's cashing in right now, fair play. Horrible bloke though, and he's copping nothing.

When the situation of the game looks like you're down and out, it's important that you at least send out the right message in the field, but today it was all too sloppy.

We have to bat soooo well in this second innings and as we've been saying all along, the big players must stand up and save this series. Not too hopeful though judging by what's gone before.

As hopeless a position as we find ourselves in, it's vital the attitude is spot on when we take to the field tomorrow. We cannot just dip our shoulders, look disinterested and wait for the Aussie captain to call the declaration, we need to give it a real go, try and nip a few wickets out, disrupt, upset, frustrate the Aussies however we possibly can. Then of course at some point it will be the major focus back on the failing batsmen who have a big point to prove.

As annoyed and frustrated at the performances so far in this series, I still harbour some slight hopes we can show something on day four to give us optimism in somehow salvaging this Test.

I would let Harris keep playing unless his knee is an issue. I'm not convinced they are over their Warnitous (all spinners must be like him) so I could see a random spinner in for Sydney. Hope they just leave it be unless forced by injury though.

Makes the ease of Australia's 2nd innings runs that more crazy. Obviously day 5 will play worse than day 3, but how the hell is a team scoring so easily with those cracks.

The wicket as alluded to by bench is not easy to play on and is gonna to be a lot tougher than either of the first two tests to bat out on and that went really well. Without stating the obvious there is no chance. There may be some fight a couple of the top 5 but the rest will just swing the bat with gay abandon as they have done throw this series

Well Warner did score the bulk of the runs. The rest of the guys at around 40 runs per 100

Would be absolute madness to drop Lyon. He's gonna have good and bad days you just need to back him as he is clearly you're best spinner . Wouldn't be a bad time to blood a batsman instead of Bailey or Rogers. Maybe Doolan but you guys would know better than me who to give a chance to.

He might be a bit of an idiot and a brainless cricketer but I really find Watsons facial expressions genuinely hilarious. May he keep entertaining me

The wicket so far has been absolutely fine to play on, as suggested by Australia's 157 run opening stand. I'm not doubting it'll get worse, surely a pitch with cracks like that that will have been baked in 40 degrees for a few days will show signs of deterioration, but as it stands there's nothing to fear. I don't really think for one minute we have much chance of getting anything out of this, I am just hoping for for some signs of optimism at the close of day four, I'm not expecting miracles!

Prior's done, this is worse than the stuff that got him dropped in SL
Flower has got himself in a situation because he said he'd drop big players if they didn't perform. Well he can't drop any of Cook, KP or Bell, Anderson, Swann or Broad imo so if that's the case Prior will have to be the guy he does drop.

I can certainly get behind that even if Bairstow isn't going to do a better job long term than Prior.

What's riled me the most about Prior and to a lesser extent Broad and Swann's batting wasn't so much there performance in this series because this performance was the product of the last couple of years. They'd go back to county cricket and bat with an arrogance and disregard to the situation. Prior went back to sussex this past year as a batsman and batted at 5 and played like a complete ****** trying to hit everything. He just didn't respect the situation or the game. I can see that mentally it's tough going from playing test cricket regularly to the county cricket but he just didn't approach the situation in the correct way. Broad and Swann were both similar in their approach in county cricket although they didn't play much this year. They just try and smack every ball. Broad would get caught on the boundary trying to hit sixes; Prior would get caught pulling at mid wicket. Familiar? They were just casual in their approach to the game and in the end that catches up with you.

The australian bowlers have just been too good for the top 5 batsmen so in that regard whilst they ain't blameless I have more sympathy with them. At least I feel their approach to the game is consistently good- they're execution has been poor but that's simply the pressure of the bowling and the situation.

yes maybe it's not massively tough to play on but it's going to be a considerably tougher wicket than either of the first two tests. Pace, inconsistent bounce, movement through the air.

Captain Obvious but top 5 holds the key. Cook looked OK first innings but could of been out early. Carberry batting has confidence, but can't go on to see daddy. Root got a turnip, he's a bit flashy sometimes, needs more meat and potatoes. Flirterson with his ego. King Bell is not to be. The chances of retaining the urn are a million to one they said . . .
