Played well with a bit of fortune.Anyway, have we just batted really well, the bowling been complete rubbish or - most pertinently - the pitch much easier to play on?

Yes, onus is on the bowler. But umpires not calling them for no-balls, when they are bowling them and only checking when they actually manage to take a wicket is poor umpiring and poor bowling. Different story if the bowler puts in an effort ball and its his only no-ball, then yeah it is entirely his fault. It's not a one-way street; bowlers check and often get a quiet word from the umpire if they're getting close. Onus is on the bowler if they think they're getting close and to suffer the consequences otherwise.
Also it means that teams are missing out on a potential 5-10 extra runs each innings from bowlers overstepping and not being called. Which doesn't matter in most games, but can be huge every now and then. The sooner they're taken out of the umpires' hands the better IMO.Nah, I don't think its that bad a point. If you are of the belief that you are bowling legitimate deliveries all the time, it is crazy for it only to be checked when you actually take a wicket.
