That's because his technique is preventing him from following the ball sideways with his hands. It's a good thing. If his technique was worse he'd be edging those, no question.

Rohit's done well to not follow the ball with his hands when it moves away; it looks bad but it's good technique against this sort of bowling. If Steyn wants to actually get him out now then he's going to need to pitch it up further, which will give Rohit a chance to counter-attack if Steyn doesn't execute perfectly.

He followed it quite a few times in fact but missed it each time.
Now contrast it with Kohli who just played two glorious shots off Steyn.

I maintain that he's played Steyn reasonably well so far but he has indeed been gash against McLaren. Rattled, IMO.
