Yeah, it's very good, although still a long way below the leading players like Chanders, Clarke and Amla (all around the 80 mark).

Indeed all gun players have had a 2/3 year period where they have averaged well over 70 in their career. Ross needs a purple patch.

Well all those guys are a little (or in Chanders case, a lot!) older than Taylor so he has time. He's 29, so he's got the experience behind him to kick on to a purple patch and despite often batting on a hiding to nothing under pressure his record is respectable. I'm actually more confident in him hitting an extended purple patch than I am in him batting well into his mid 30s. New Zealanders historically retire early but if Taylor bucks the trend then he will need to be more circumspect with his slashy cut shots as his eye goes. He still has a good base to drive and pull, but there is a good chance he will start falling all over the place towards the end with his tendency to go on the walk, and an extended decline will hurt his average.

What are we looking to see from WI in terms of a show here? I would think they would like to bat hard all day tomorrow and blunt the NZ attack with a view to an honourable draw. What is the history of this ground in terms of the pitch breaking up late?.
I would just like to see New Zealand having to get us out tbh. In India too many of the wickets were giveaways (caught at long off, caught at backward point, stumped by a mile etc). If someone gets out to a pretty decent piece of bowling with the new ball, then fair do's. But getting caught at long off when the ball has gone soft will be unacceptable here.

Incidentally, tomorrow could be a pretty cool day in our history. Shiv is only 37 runs away from the 11,000 mark. What a superstar, go on tiger!

Obviously I'd prefer it if he could wait until Wellington to pass the mark...purely so that I can be there to see it in person of course.

McCullum took a great slip catch! Yes.

Boult and Southee bowling well.

Really dislike Nigel Long. Utterly rubbish umpiring in India and that was not a good decision at all, the ball didn't seam back at him.

Edit: Awesome catch, very bad shot from Darren. Now it's trouble!

Great start to the day. I am listening to the radio coverage so didn't see the LBW appeal, but Coney and Waddle seemed completely bamboozled by the decision being overturned - and after the dismissal they stopped talking about it. What was the story?

Hit on the back leg in front of off, looked absolutely dead in real-time. Hawkeye showed it going on with the angle as it didn't come back in at all. Most umps would've given it but a good review.

Boult pitched it on middle, it carried on with the angle, hit Marlon middle on off stump. It was only just missing the off stump, but it showed a lack of cricketing logic. The ball didn't come back at the batsman and from the angle Boult was bowling at and the length the ball pitched at, it would have to come back at the batsman to be hitting the stumps.
