Fulton and McCullum didn't have any problems biffing around Finn's pies last season. He'll need to do more than just be fast.
The pitch is very grassy. Should be heaps of pace, seam movement, and bounce.

Best and Gabriel will enjoy this pitch far more that the last Dunedin pitch we saw.

Love Coney so much. It's so refreshing having a commentator who actually watches cricket matches that don't involve New Zealand and knows a bit about the opposition players.

I love the nervous lull in posting that happens when NZ's batting first in a Test. Every time.

about one ball per over moving a bit off the straight, WI really quite lost without Roach and Rampaul

They've been a bit wayward and this scrambled seam bowling is odd, but I can't help but feel Sammy got suckered. When the sun peeks through the pitch already looks browner.

Still no where near panic stations yet of course.

Just know that Sammy is gonna pick up a bag and in doing so guarantee his place in the team for another 12 months. You're welcome WI.

Slightly airy square drive by Rutherford followed by a gorgeous off drive. Need more of the latter and less of the former please - the first one wasn't a ball to be going after in the fifth over of the game. Don't get carried away Hamish.

Yeah, it's a good start for yer Kiwis. With Sammy the only other seamer it could be a long day in the field if WI don't pick up a wicket or two before drinks.

Looking at Gabriel, I'm a bit surprised Jason Holder wasn't selected. Early days though, that was a better over.

His play reminds me of Dilshan. He's happy to drive through the line but as soon as he's batting against taller bowlers who get some bounce I hope he has the smarts to put that shot away until it's properly full.

We'll see if he figures that out.

Sounds like the West Indies are bowling much much too short on a Dunedin green pitch. Shades of 1980?

Just Best to Rutherford I think, like they're targeting his hip/chest. Seem to be a bit fuller to Fulton.
