Hey - Hurricane, I thought these Friday night matches at the stadium were supposed to bring in bigger crowds than a day game at the Basin?

If there were more than 700 people there last night, I'd be surprised.

Maybe if you add in the extra staff required to hold a game there, there might have been a thousand.

Sort your **** out, NZC.

You guys a fighting a straw man, Friday night games are for TV, and at the stadium because they have lights.

When this first came in a year ago, Hurricane suggested it was because more people would attend the games as you could stroll along to the Westpac after work.

I contended that was a false assumption.

Was probably a bigger crowd at the T20 on Tuesday, 4pm start at the Basin.

Cracker day here in Welly, 4pm at the Basin and the crowd would be massive.

Did Wellington win this game or Auckland?!
Auckland won with 1 ball to spare.

It was a pretty abject match though tbh.

I got great enjoyment in going to the game and shouting "WHY THE **** ISN'T THIS GAME BEING PLAYED AT THE BASIN?!>!?!?" to reasonably significant cheers from the sparse crowd.

EDIT: NB I didn't pay for my ticket, which is why I considered it worthwhile going.

Nah, 4pm at the Basin is still ridiculous. My sister and partner said they would have gone if it didn't start so early on a weekday. People still have to work for a living.

Christ. Please tell me this is an embellished story. And that the real truth is you casually remarked to your mate "why is this being played at the basin" in a quiet voice.

Either way I have been struggling to think of what to use as my sig for a while and that will do nicely.

Not embellished - check with 16Tins.

EDIT: Though to be fair, with the stadium being so empty you didn't really have to shout for it to be heard by everyone.

Provincial A tournament.

I see that Auck A v ND A has been played and is part of the tournament. I assume this was a multi-day game? So the tourney this year will have more substance than just 10 days if white ball cricket?

If so, good work someone at NZC for rectifying an obvious gaping hole.

Cricket: Stags rue small stuff amid shift to shield - Sport - Hawke's Bay Today News

"Dougie's someone who needs a challenge and we knew he's a clean hitter of the ball so that's why he was promoted to No 4.

"Jake's a quality cricketer ... so it's great to have him in the shed with seven more HRV Cup games coming up," Malan says.

Captain Kieran Noema Barnett is out of the next two first-class games for the defending shield champions.

"He's received six stitches to the webbing of his thumb and index finger on the right hand and will probably be out for 14 to 18 days, depending on how quickly his injury heals."

Legspinner Tarun Nethula is out with a torn ankle ligament after failing the fitness test for tomorrow's four-dayer.

T20 bowler Marty Kain has returned to Nelson with spinner Ajaz Patel replacing Nethula.

With Noema-Barnett out, Black Cap batsman Ross Taylor will shuffle into the middle order while speed merchant Adam Milne also comes back from the tour of the sub-continent.

Malan has called in Nelson's Greg Hay who will be the 12th man tomorrow while former skipper How will captain the Stags.
