Worst night ever, sod the cricket I mean personally. Got soft tissue damage around kidneys and strained muscles in back and now have a cold. Every sneeze is agony so drifting off to sleep at lunch I wasn't too fussed, waking up at tea was a shock but gladly I managed to get back to sleep. These last few nights have been the longest I can remember and having the cricket to watch has helped but it would have been better if we'd competed.

Well done Australia, looks a certain 1-0 to you but as we all know England are crap in first tests on tour so it is all about how they react from this. Gooch needs shooting though as he is in charge of the batting and this happens too often.

A batting performance that's 'up there' with getting bowled out for under 200 on the flattest of roads against New Zealand.
Yup. And anyone who's been paying attention over the last 2 years won't be all that surprised. When the going gets tough, this lot generally piss off unless one individual bats like a demi-god to see us out of the mire. Nice for the Australians, but I reckon my 3-1 forecast to Aus was actually quite optimistic from an England pov unless our top 7 can grow a spine.

Not sure I've felt this way about an Ashes test since Adelaide 06.

Yes, there were hammerings at Leeds 09 and Perth 10. But they were kinda predictable blips that England fans work into any formula. But little can prepare you for this. I feel sorry for our bowlers. They shouldn't be hammering it in again so soon.

They must feel betrayed
Welcome to Australia's world of the last few years

Cant blame Gooch as Cook, Trott and Root all knew what was coming at them

Be like an Australian blaming Lehmann for Clarke being bounced out by Broad

I'd be stirring those who sledged Johnson's selection if I didn't agree with most of what was said, though I still would have had him in my side on account of all our injuries. Only fair to say he's played a blinder so far and good luck to him. Maybe at 32 he's realising he's not a princess. Rhino fantastic as per.

****ing hell..........only way to describe today was pure torture.

I'm optimistically going to put this down to our standard 1st away test rubbish, but deep down I know there is some serious writing on the wall here.

Watching the post game show with MacGill and BJ.

Jeez that Harris bowling to Cook just gets better and better every view.

I'd like to hear from that bloke who was saying Cook was only getting out in England because he was in bad form, if he still thinks that or he's willing to give full credit to Harris.

Is it at all possible that it might be a combination of both??

If you want to cite todays dismissal as proof that you were right 3 months ago would that then mean that if Cook had of scored a 100 today you were wrong???

Not sure If I'm the bloke you are referring to or not but I was certainly claiming that Cook was out of form during the English series. That does not mean nor did I ever say that Ryan Harris is not an extremely class act and he did not execute the plans faultlessly.

Well played Oz. Completely blew us away. I didn't watch after lunch - probably for the best really - but woke up to read that England had been completely annihilated. One of the worst days we've endured for many years.

The result of the match isn't in any doubt, but it'd be good if we can secure some kind of positivity from the second half of the match, and this England team has proven over recent years that it can put up a real fight in adversity.

Lot of media talk - and general chatter - that this is a genuinely epochal day in terms of momentum... hmm. We'll see.
