The most vulnerable starters in World Cricket

I know Atapattu looked completely clueless at the start of his innings, but once he got his eye in, he was very tough to dismiss. Maybe the same can be said about Laxman.

What are some other examples of the batsmen who are/were the most vulnerable at the start of the innings?

KP and Marlon Samuels often look pretty ordinary at the start of their innings'
Samuels looks pretty ordinary sometimes till he gets going. Same with Yusuf Pathan, it seems like he mite get out any moment in the first few deliveries he faces.

I'd hate to be the non striker with KP, the amount of suicidal singles he takes to get underway is ridiculous.

I always thought Atherton was fairly dodgy early on in the innings. But when he went past that initial phase, he was a pretty sticky player.

Warner for sure if he doesn't get a couple away straight off. If he can belt a few fours he gets into stride pretty quick.

I just wish Marcus get to 20 = score a ton North was a better starter. Loving how he's going about it as an opener now.

The disparity in quality when 'in' and 'new to the crease' was its biggest with Ricky Ponting.

Ross Taylor I believe had a world record number of innings before recording a duck, but he's also a dreadful starter.

Who's a good starter?

Most batsmen are usually vulnerable early in the innings especially if the ball is doing a bit.
Inzamam was quite vulnerable early in his innings against the swinging ball..a primary reason he was so reluctant to bat at 3 despite repeated requests from all corners.

Nah, Taylor was up there, but he didn't surpass AbDV 78 innings without a duck. BTW, I think de Villiers answers your second question too. He seems to start well regularly.

I think Hayden was a pretty good starter especiallly on Australian pitches..he would nullify the opening bowlers quite successfully on the first day of a test match.

Younis is pretty bad when he starts but once he makes 30 plus he makes it count.
Yap, he looks quite ordinary at the early stage of his innings but is tough to dismiss once he gets set.

With Atapattu I think it was more of a mental thing, he was out for a duck 6 times out of his first 9 innings which created serious doubts over his future, and also had a lot of single digit scores in his initial career even when he was in a good flow.
