*Official* First Test at The Gabba

I thought Carberry dealt with MJ fairly well on that rascal pitch at Cardiff. Will be a good contest though. He could also trouble Cook early with those full swingers he sometimes falls over. IIRC he isn't great against left armers normally (MJ in the past exempted).

Serious point, who takes the new ball with Harris?

In the past Siddle has been seen as an older ball operator and Johnson is too wayward to trust with it. Be interesting to see who gets it.
Surely Siddle gets it?

And again with the Johnson rage. Yeah, he's a bit wayward and flaky, to put it mildly. But Pattinson, Starc and Bird are all injured and your alternatives to Johnson are Hilfenhaus (not as good as Johnson) or James Faulkner (lol). Let's all have a nice big glass of calm the **** down before getting wound up over this selection.

Cook's trouble with left armers are cancelled out by the fact that Johnson will be regularly spearing in to the pads and dropping short and wide, arguably Cooks biggest strength. The fact that he struggled with Zaheer and Boult in the past are pretty irrelevant when it comes to Johnson. They're completely different bowlers and the angles aren't anything alike.

Tangles

International Vice-Captain
MJ is a move backwards. BA will have him dribbling again. Chadd should have got a gig. At least he knows what the seam and shine are for.

Speaking of Hilf, where's he disappeared to? Always liked him. Crocked again? Just getting on a bit?

Rested from this round of Shield matches because he was in the frame to play, but not selected in the 12 for Brisbane.

Didn't bowl better then Faulkner at the end of last year's shield.

Eta: after he got injured .

Basically his time-line has been

injured> (still injured for india) > play shield (was good but not amazing) > not selected for eng > 4/86,1/88 (first 2 shield matches, nothing of note in the ryobi cup)> burgey's post.

Got injured, plus his action showed signs of decline against South Africa.

He also wouldn't make our starting attack.
