*Official* English Football Season 2013-14

How exactly is Holloway a victim of his own success?

It was Dougie Freedman who had Palace in the position they were in. Holloway came in, won 6 out of 20 games, just about scraped into the playoffs and got up that way. He's then taken 3 points from 8 Premier League games.

He signed a pile of ****e in the summer (2 of his signings didn't even make his 25 man squad) and Palace have been going nowhere under his management. 100% correct decision to bin him.

That bizarre rant on the first game of the season said a lot. No idea who would want the job though, there is no way they are staying up.

Like the token dive the keeper puts in as the ball is past him, when you hit it as hard as that your margin for error is a lot bigger - take note Rooney and your fannying about.

I love Shinji Kagawa. I don't even care if he's any good, he's a genius and failing to pick him is an insult to the football gods.

Ha, some favour when Pulis is the favourite to take over.

I'll try and keep it printable. Especially when the other guy being touted as a possible replacement is Warnock.

It's all very sad. I have no idea what his summer spending spree was supposed to achieve, but neither did Holloway afaics. Maybe he thought they could all play and give us a numerical advantage.

There's some talk of Holloway being a victim of his own success, but it ain't really true. Results tailed off badly last season, and we only scraped into the play-offs because everyone else was dropping points. And watching Zaha single-handedly get us through those was always a bitter-sweet experience given his move to Old Trafford's subs bench. You wonder what will happen to him now, as Moyes clearly doesn't fancy him at all. Probably back in the Championship next season.

As for Palace, I've seen enough top-flight disasters over the years to take this one on the chin, especially as it was 100% predictable. At least it won't come down to some last day of the season heart-breaker.

It is lunacy when 2 of the players he signed aren't even in the 25 man squad - bloke's a clown IMO and always has been.

Mind you the alternative is Pulis.

Which reinforces the point that the real shame was losing Freedman to Bolton, of all places.

But the lack of strategy was appalling. Surely the best bet is to strengthen the side a bit but recognise you're probably going to be in the frame for relegation whatever happens. That wouldn't matter, as the money from the EPL would continuer to improve the side who could come back stronger a year or two later. Instead of which, we get this fiasco, with a bunch of guys who have no loyalty to the side at all, so we don't even have the team spirit that was there in May.

I hardly ever go nowadays, and I certainly don't fancy watching this bunch. I was going to take my son to the Man Utd match, as he's a typical 11 year old glory hunter who's signed up with the top team when he got into the game. But apparently if you want tickets for that game you also have to buy tickets for one of the less attractive fixtures, which is a bit of a piss take really.

I think both sides of this coin are sort of true. As has been pointed out, were Palace 10th in the Championship at the moment then the odds are he'd still be in the job, so in that sense he has been a victim of his own success.

On the other hand, I completely agree with the general sentiment that he is a clown and deserved to go anyway.

West Brom are a good model for promoted clubs to follow, took a couple of relegations on the chin because they didn't bankrupt themselves to stay up and have become established in the prem

Exactly so. They've been wise with their choice of managers too.
