"Best ever" teams selected by former players or experts- whose is best?

I am aware. What's your point?
Come on Kyear, where is the love for Sammy, Ganga, Pollard? I feel like you are discriminating them against Sobers, Marshall, Viv. Imagine how they would feel if they were to view your posts. Don't break their hearts. :(

A few observations,

1) All those experts and not any two persons selected the same XI.
2) Ten teams and no Lara, Hadee or Muralitharan
3) Unanimous selections: Hobbs, Bradman, Sobers and Warne. Next and would have been if not for Benaud, Marshall.

Composite XI

Jack Hobbs (10)
Len Hutton (4)
Don Bradman (10)
Viv Richards (8)
Sachin Tendulkar (7*)
Garry Sobers (10)
Adam Gilchrist (8)
Malcolm Marshall (9)
Shane Warne (10)
Dennis Lillee (5)
Syd Barnes (5)

So should this be the ATG XI?

Please put Tendulkar at #4 and Viv at #5.
Going by votes, but why? Viv was probably the second best No. 3 so the next logical spot is No. 4.

Plus can anyone imagine the carnage of Viv and Bradman batting together?

Depends whether the 'NUFAN Principle' is valid or not. That is - 'The first change bowler must, by definition, be an ATG fast-bowler'

If the NUFAN Principle is NOT valid then I would say that your team is the strongest possible, or very close to it.

Needless to say, the 'NUFAN Principle' is worth discussing as it has definite implications.

Tis just something I'm a bit pedantic about. Tendulkar always bats at #4. When Viv dropped down the order from 3 he went to 5.

Apart from CW's would have to say Cricinfo's. Just don't rate Barnes that high and Marshall missing is a deal breaker for Benaud's team. Boycott's is pretty good as well though, at least in that team Barnes is bowling the new ball.

The Tiger King
CW is of course our own baby so it is pretty good. The reason that I like Benaud's team is that it isn't restricted by the stupid 1 all rounder a team rule. And just as Marshall not making your team is a deal breaker for you, Imran not making an ATXI is a deal breaker for me. While Marshall is better bowler than Imran but Imran easily the better cricketer IMO.

MrPrez

International Debutant
CW my favourite, purely on the basis that it's the only one with the right bowling quartet. Hutton/Sutcliffe/Gavaskar is debatable for the second opening spot, and for the most part the middle orders of the teams are the same.

International Coach
The middle orders are all more or less the same with most of the teams and Sobers, Warne, Hobbs, Gilchrist and Marshall are all pretty much unanimous as well. So when one looks at it there are eight positions pretty much already filled for an ATG XI with just the second opener and second and third bowling spots up for grabs and debate.
