The fulfilling of potential needs to start now. Today. Terms like "rebuilding" and "youth" are just excuses for being rubbish and are attempts to buy an artificial grace period.

I agree with that completely, but the same time, it does take new introductions some time to find their feet. Right now, however, is a period in which the core of the team has found their feet and settled in. Williamson, Taylor, McCullum, Watling, Southee & Boult all seem to be settled into Test cricket nicely. Rutherford is coming along well considering his inexperience. They're all settled enough; they can't claim the excuse of youth any more. The side isn't rebuilding - it's mostly rebuilt.
