Because Test cricket isn't some sandbox for kids who average 70 on A tours. And no-one in the game would argue Sodhi has a hardened and unsentimental temperament that's poles apart from Martin Crowe's at the same age either; he's a very young 20-year-old by modern standards. He's not one of these guys who's targeted cricket as a career path despite it being about his fifth preference as a pure sport, because he sees the game as weak. Having a worldwide connotation with ****ness will hurt him bitterly.

In this test match? No, of course not, but then Bartin's first effort against England would suggest he's a better bowler than what he's done here. We know neither of them are likely to consistently bowl that well. Patel was equally bad against Zimbabwe, South Africa etc and averages something like 60+ in the last two years with the ball in test cricket. That's a more accurate portrayal of his skill level as a player. It's really not much different from what we're getting here. As someone said earlier, the biggest problem atm is that we picked two specialist spin bowlers. That's basically just multiplying our biggest weakness. Since that's unlikely to happen again, unless Hesson etc are really really stupid, this will be partially solved by the next test. Wagner or Southee if he's fit will most likely come in for the second test.

I do know what you're saying though, but I think there's a point where overly circumspect England is at least favourably comparable to ruthless home track bullies India.

Went well thanks, on a personal level anyway - unfortunately my team didn't have a lot of success. Played on a few nice grounds too, it's a different world over here, no overlapping outfields!

It may be a road but nonetheless if we had've selected another seamer and IFF (with two fs) that bowler had chipped in with 2 wickets early in the piece then we might have gotten amongst Bangers.

Didn't see the first two sessions today and was not overly happy to see that Bangladesh were able to put on another 120 this morning - images of second innings batting collapses and handing the match to Bangladesh. Pleased that Fulton and Williamson appear to have played mature innings so far and are gradually putting this match to bed as a draw.
