Cricinfo just reminded me 3 hours since last wicket!
Well he's barely played lately and did reasonably okay when he did.Nah Gillespie isn't in top form so he doesn't play. He's the sort of bowler who is either on or off and when he's off he's no where near test standard so playing him here would be suicide.
The selectors have basically taken a "we'll assess how GIllespie how bowling by watching him and only include him if he's in good rhythm" stance and I think it's an excellent one. He's not really the sort of bowler anymore as such who will produce a fiery spell and then some rubbish in the same match regularly; he's the sort of bowler who will give you pretty much an entire match of fiery bowling or an entire much of crap depending on his fitness and rhythm. They're managing him perfectly IMO.Well he's barely played lately and did reasonably okay when he did.
This situation is perfectly suited to picking him because you have 6 bowling options, if he has a good spell and takes 2-3 wickets that's a big contribution in these conditions.
You could argue they're managing him well if they ever actually played him. But since they don't you're just guessing. The selectors have basically taken a "we'll assess how GIllespie how bowling by watching him and only include him if he's in good rhythm" stance and I think it's an excellent one. Some of us actually watch the cricket Gillespie plays outside of a few tests against SA two years ago.You could argue they're managing him well if they ever actually played him. But since they don't you're just guessing.
