This is on the rocks 1 Saffie side and 2 Aussie sides obliterated, missing players to IPL,i give this 1/2 years at most.

its not marketed towards south africa or australia though. the only way this tournament will go down the crapper is if the IPL sides get hammered.

Yeh but if all the semi sides are IPL,and the competitive Aussie and Saffie sides do not win a game because they are decimated because they lose all their ipl players,it ceases to be competive.Even Indians will stop watching it if the other sides are'nt competive.

Am sorry I missed this match - looks a heart-stopper (insofar as a club T20 match can be). How Otago won from the position they were in several times, I don't know. Well done Neesham - this is the season he announces himself, perhaps.

Is Jimmy being a former regular poster just so old-hat now it's not worth mentioning, or is it more to do with this place being mostly n00bs?
the former

Missing players to the IPL is the whole point.

They'd be in more trouble (as they were the first go around) if the IPL teams were getting thrashed.

What I think they need to do is stop too much re-shuffling of players at auction time. I know as a black caps supporter I was keen on Kolkata (McCullum) and Bangalore (Taylor) for the first couple of seasons because of the cache of those players. When they shuffle them around like that you lose a bit of brand identity. I had been this far from getting a Knight Riders (**** that's an awful name) shirt and keeping my Shah Rukh Khan haircut.

I'm sure there would have been plenty of Aussies keen on Rajasthan with all the influence Warne had there. They should be trying to turn these teams into global brands like the EPL.

They don't care because it makes the IPL thieves look amazing. This is a competition where an IPL side can play a club and have the oppositions best player on their team despite the opposition being the players identity and developer.

It's rigged from the start to make the IPL look super special and the only threat to this competition is the IPL sides getting consistently smoked, and if that looks like happening the format will be rejigged to help the IPL sides. Neesham and Quinton de Kock will both be playing IPL in the next installment, mark my words, and if their franchise finishes top four then that's Otago and the Lions knocked down a peg if they qualify again.

I hope Australia don't have the automatic two spots in the next CL. I can live with one spot but the performances from the two Aussies show that the Big Bash is not that deserving even when taking into account injuries and loss of players to IPL franchises.

Congrats Jimmy btw, I love how the article on Cricinfo quoting Neesham said that the Stags don't rely on McCullum and then the next outing he shows he is the main man.

Australia definitely deserve two automatic entrants, especially given the past performances of the Australian teams over the history of the competition.

It should be automatically two entrants except for when Brisbane is one of those teams. Then it should only be one.

The Stags only rely on McCullum as much as Australia rely on Dale Steyn...

It should be one automatic entrant plus the Sydney Sixers, regardless of where they finished on the ladder, IMO.

Every time they Indian comms mention Jimmy, it seems to be followed by "he can hit it a long way"

Looks like he'll be making bank at the next auction.

Hmmm, maybe... though the precise amount players get seems to depend a lot on whether they're lucky enough to be the subject of a bidding war. There've been plenty of top quality SA and Aus players who've received sub-100k IPL salaries. Still, when you're only living is a $40k domestic contract, I imagine pretty much anything extra would feel like 'making bank'.

Well there is nothing in these 2 Aussie teams,to make the IPL.That said there are a lot of oldies in the ipl including overseas players, who will be moved on shortly.
Even Mike Hussey who would offer him a 3 year deal.

for a 22 y/o with travel expenses paid, 40k isn't that bad.

Just when you're older and have responsibilities it's pretty bloody ****.
