I don't think I'm a fan of Hammond being lifted above Hutton. The two being in the order they were I saw as a success of the system, recognising how much harder it was to bat in post-war England than in pre-war Australia.

Agree with this as well, can't see Hammond above Hutton or Richards but if that's the only complaint then this exercise has been quite the success.

Marvelous job DoG and can't wait for the bowlers list. A bit sad to see Pollock so low as was becoming more of a fan, but he and Headley must be rated with a disclaimer I guess. Wonder how that would transfer to O'Reilly's rating.

Quick question, what were the adjustments made again and DoG would you be inclined to give us a sneak peek of the formula of the bowling calculations?

The gap between Bradman and Sobers is a massive 544 points. And yet there are only 288 points between Sobers and Polly Umrigar at no.100.

If the career points cap is removed, then Lara would be the 2nd in the list with 961, and Tendulkar will be #4. I would settle for that ranking. I don't think Sangakkara is a better batsman than SRT at the moment.

The Don has 15 great innings. That's 1 per every 5.33 innings played.

And in the 1930s it works out at one great innings every 3.76 innings or 2.53 matches (13 great innings in 49 innings and 33 matches). This significant improvement on his overall career record is surely unrivaled by any other batsman in any other decade.

That's also like saying whats Sobers points when he didn't have to open the bowling or from when he was picked as a batsman only and not as a spin bowler.

What really is the point of that? One can only be rated on what they actually did, not on what could have been.

Probably to the same extent that Pollock and Headley were penalised for their short careers. Barnes will probably be punished more though for his best performances coming against minnows.
