New Zealand A Tour of India and Sri Lanka

Flem274*

123/5
If we get 300 from here it will be pretty flattering. This innings is going to be a sum up of all the Plunket Shield stereotypes from last season isn't it?

Bizarre team balance [x}
Top order removed cheaply [x]
Lone middle order batsman stands up [x]
Number eight scores fifty [almost there]
Number eight scores hundred []
Number nine scores fifty at superb strike rate []

New Zealand Prime Minister Ron Key departs for 125. Tastle closing in on a 50.

so it looks like we've smoked the two bowlers daemon says are good and collapsed to the ones he thinks suck.

the saxon bloke is a spinner though so that explains it.

That's a weird selection for this India team on the whole.

Especially on the bowling front.

I am not sure why and how does Aniket Chaudhary get in ahead of Pankaj Singh. He wasn't even a total regular for Rajasthan IIRC.

He looks decent at times, but could have picked 5/6 bowlers ahead of him on performance even excluding those that have gone to SA.

Anyway, seems the type of wickets where darters are doing well while Ladda the leggie has been struggling.

but Shrikant Wagh is a good choice in limited-overs cricket. Not so much in the extended version.
I think i posted it before but Duncan Fletcher picked him out personally along with a couple of others from the bowling camp earlier this year, so expected selection i guess.

310 all out.

5fer for Jalax Saxena who seems to do well in these sort of India A and ROI games more than FC cricket consistently.

Good knock by Ronchi for NZ, along with Astle after the initial collapse.

Yeah a bit of a weird player. I don't think he'll ever really be a factor with Jadeja and Ashwin around though; I can't see him ever pushing for a place as a batsman or a bowler alone and India don't need more spin bowling allrounders at this point.

Jalaj Saxena's a largely average bowler, but yes, his bowling goes up several notches when he's playing for any team other than Madhya Pradesh, for whom, he's still king with the bat. He and Nayar would make a team's top six, but don't cut it as strike bowlers. Exceptionally good with the bat, though, and should secure a regular place in an IPL XI. Can be an asset on a seamer-friendly pitch. However, a strike spinner who can bat would be a better choice, and he isn't one.

Ladda's nothing special. He's not even seasoned, and has played very little. I can't say much about Pankaj Singh, who also does better for teams other than his state team, Rajasthan, but he doesn't need to prove himself in events like these- he should be playing in place of Ishant, Dinda, Munaf and Shami. There's no case at all to leave him out all the time.

Ian Chappell strongly exhorts the Indian selectors to play Unmukt Chand in the national side. Let him finish five seasons, five A-team tours outside Asia and maybe then he can play for India. The India cap should be earned on merit, not some U-19 quota.

I haven't actually seen any of these ****s besides Nayar and Kulkarni in FC games, assumed they were all **** based on their stats.

Aniket Chaudhary is definitely an incorrect selection. Why, even Ishant Sharma or Irfan Pathan or Umesh Yadav would be a better choice than him.

Here's Ian Chappell showering unlimited praises on Unmukt Chand and Harmeet Singh. Not surprisingly, former Indian stalwarts disagree and say they need more time. I wonder what happened to Harmeet Singh- wait, there are two of them.

New Zealand finish at 310 for eight- and just in case you think another Indian team struggles to wipe out the tail end, this is another team facing the Indian team that bats deep- all but three of them have at least one century and all of them have scored fifties, the least being Sodhi's three. Hardly rank tailenders, unlike two teddybears in the Indian A team- who also bat very deep otherwise.

+1 Astle
+2 Ronchi

Exactly the type of recovery innings for which Ronchi is selected. I like Watling in our test side but it's good to have someone putting a little pressure on him for his spot. Both are utter rat**** against the new ball though, which is not a great when you're likely batting at the 80 over mark.

Don't know what to make of Astle. Very few legspinners make it at international level and it's very hard to see him doing that without significant contributions with the bat to prop up his case. Thought he'd had a good season with bat in 12/13 but turns out he only averaged 36. Also turns out that's his best batting average over eight seasons for Canterbury (Gawd he was just an awful awful opener. I remember him getting four ducks in a row but that was not inconsistent with his general rubbishness. Don't know how/why Canterbury persisted with him as opener for five seasons). Still only 26 so this is the time to use a little maturity to turn his apparent batting ability and technique into actual runs.

Read the summary of the days play on cricinfo in the hope of reading how our guys batted, how they played, how out, how good the bowling was, but the article was just garbage written straight from the scorecard .
